Default Trick Flow Heads CC's

Just wanna know, does TFS make LS1/LS6 heads with a combustion chamber smaller than 64cc? Maybe 58-60cc? If they dont, anyone know who does, without needing any machine work? Thnx.

5.3 heads from GM are about the only ones that would not require machine work to have a smaller chamber. Almost all the aftermarket heads come with around a 64 cc chamber and to go smaller will require milling. It does not cost to much to have them machined down. I think I paid about 150 dollar to have my heads decked 30 thousanths. I know some people like TEA can have the heads deck for you when you order them.

I would contact Brian Tooley at TEA. TEA does the machining on the TFS heads for TFS. There is a flow loss when the heads are milled, not sure how much on the TFS, but prior to machining to some large amount I would speak with Brian and get his input. I believe Brian did the CNC development work as well for these heads so he would be the source to go to.

Much like the AFR's, I had Tony Mamo do the work on mine since he knows the in's and out's of the heads.

I would talk to Brian Tooley. I had mine milled down by QMP in Chatsworth to 61cc's. Also, in Reseda there's a great shop, West Coast Cylinder Heads.

We are the largest TrickFlow/TEA dealer in the country We would be more than happy to help you out with your cylinder heads. We have been working with Brian for over 6 years now and have developed quite a relationship with him and his crew.

FWIW, We use TFS 215s on 90% of our heads/cam packages and most are milled down to 58-61cc .... Rest assured they still flow quite well with a few thousanths off the deck

Unless you're running dished pistons, your CR will be way over that.

59cc will land you in the 11.5-11.7 ballpark depending your head gasket choice.

Then I guess 60cc might be more on the safe side?

If you want guidance, advise what cam specs you're going with.

Simply put, static compression means a lot of nothing.

Dynamic compression, (which takes into account how much the cam overlap bleeds off cylinder pressure) means everything, in terms of what you can get away with with pump gas.

For example, 11.7:1 static is not a problem if you are running a large 240s duration cam with 20* overlap. That's exactly what I'm doing, and it works great on 93 octane.

However, that same SCR (static compression) with say a 224 cam, your DCR (dynamic compression) would be way too high, and pinging would likely result.

For 93 octane, a DCR of 8.5-8.7 is ideal. If you know all your cam specs, and have Excel, this DCR calculator will help you out:

11.1:1 static would require 61cc combustion chambers/MLS head Gaskets/stock pistons.

The advice directly above my post could not be more correct!!!

Assuming you had, or could grind, a cam which could accommodate a high compression engine, What is the maximum advisable compression you would run on a 346 with dished -2cc pistons and what mill would that equate to on the trickflow 215s?

What gains have you seen with trick flows vs afr heads?

Could you also send me a quote on some milled trickflows (please include gaskets and install hours).

Thx

Thnx Ron, pm sent.

I'll go with 61cc chambers. I'll be running a cam around 230/234 112lsa. Should be enough cam to keep it happy. Talk to you soon Ron.
