I recently had a new engine placed in my 97 automatic. im trying to work out the kinks and one problem im having is no acceleration till about almost 4k. i have a code for a knock sensor but was told if it was bad it wouldnt run. so i changed plugs wires fuel filter but still nothing, my only other thought was that the mechanic didnt tune it right after install. any thoughts will help!

If you have Knock sensor DTC's its going to effect your timing. It may or may not run correctly. Fix the knock sensor issue!
If you have a STOCK 97 there isnt anything to tune unless you had something else tuned into the PCM previously.
What DTCs are you seeing????? Please post them. If you have a lot of DTCs clear them and see what comes back.
the code read knock sensor bank 1 bank 2 low circuit. i have taken them out and cleaned them up and reconnected them to ensure a good connection. and today i when i was driving noticed its not 4 grand but more in the 2k range. it is stock i have borla straight pipes and thats only after market. so it is more than likely not a tuning issue?

Not knowing the full story here, I would take it back to the shop that did the install, provided they stand behind their work. Either way, you've got to get the knock sensor squared away.
