Default Valve Cover Gasket

Just wondering is there anything special that needs to be done when replacing the gasket for the valve cover? Do I need to use RTV silicone on it? Im thinking no, just make sure it's lined up when I tighten it down.
Thanks in advance.

You will see it is a very nice rubber gasket that presses into place and will stay there when you install the valve cover. Just note which way goes into the valve cover before removing the old one. No silicone required.

hey vettenuts, I replaced the gasket. Yet there is still drops of oil coming out where the valve cover sits on top of the head. I tightened the bolts nice and tight. I have an oil breather, So i dont think the pressure would get that great where it would still push it past the gasket. Any ideas?

Would overtightening it make it leak? that doesn't seem right to me. Im not sure though. I just hand tightened it.

You can damage the gasket by getting the bolts too tight. The gasket gets crushed and will split. I would take it back off and inspect it. Also look at the machined rail that the gasket mates to. There might be some dirt or a flaw in the surface.

Had a similar problem when replacing mine. The rubber gasket was
several inches bigger than the groove in the cover and would not seat properly. Took the gasket and pan back to dealer parts dept and made sure another one fit correctly, which it did. No more leak.

Thanks, I checked and double checked the fitting and for anything that would cause a leak. I bought new gaskets. I put them on and they fit perfect. The funny thing is when I took the cover off and went to put the gasket back on, it was bigger somehow. lol. I had a set so I had another gasket and placed it next to it and the unused one was smaller than the one I took off. I dont know how this happened. And Im 100% positive they were the same size fresh out the box. lol. I would post the link to where i got them but its not a supporting vendor.
