Default Shift light

On the strip,I'm having trouble reading tach on instrument panel or hud on my new Z06.Never had this problem on my ' 99 FRC.Seems engine accelerates faster(or I'm getting older & slower) on the Z and I'm into the rev limiter.Any
suggestions for a shift light ?

There is a shift light on your HUD that comes on at 5750 RPM.

I find the shift light in the hud to be useless. The last event of the year at Etown was held late in the afternoon with the sun coming directly into the
windshield. The largest features in the hud were almost invisible.

I agree with you that the hud shift light is no good.

I am putting one in my vent. Kinda like the one pictured in the link except I am running the control module to the glove box so I can change pills.

Actually I don't use it either. I watch the tach and shift as the needle crosses 6800....never hit the limiter and run great ET's....I do it this way so I can anticipate the shift better. Waiting on a shift light for me is inconsistent because I don't get as consistent a shift point. I only commented to the fact that there is indeed a shift light there......for whatever it's worth.

PoBoy,
I appreciate the advice based on your experience.Your numbers are really impressive.Maybe I ought to stop blaming my lousy times on the equipment
and practice more.

I agree with this. I've driven manual transmissions for about 33 (God am I old) years now. I find that watching the tack comes very natural when I am winding out the gears. The tach gives a smooth ramp-up that you can use to be ready, rather than reacting when a light comes on.

If you're a die hard racer, get one of those giant tacks that Mustangs and F-bodies run around with to show-off their man-hood (sorry, once again I hope I don't offend anyone).

I installed the Harlen Shift light and it works great! I installed it to my a-piller with a Hook and Loop adhesive strip, no hole drilled a nice clean install.

We are kicking around a couple of mounting locations:
1) inside the center vent
2) in the top of the gage dome in the IP (led's facing down, not in the Harlan housing)
3) in the HUD, so it reflects off the windshield

Hi,

We have a "Sequential" shift light that is the size of a small radar detector.

It functions just like the Formula One lights on the steering wheel. (ours is not on the steering wheel).

This light is not for everryone, it is very "High Tech" looking, and goess Green, y ellow , red. at your set points in the rpm range.

They list for $199, but we have lowered the price to $179.

This is the kind of shift light that a Corvette needs. I would not put one of the big Yellow road flares in my street Corvette.

Later,

Lou you crack me up...road flare!

I like the style of the shift light you have, but it's too big to hide anywhere.

The sequential light is a great idea, but I don't want a cheesy little box with wires hanging off it sitting in the car. If there were one, even the single light variety, that could be installed cleanly without taking the dash completely apart, I'll bet it would sell like hotcakes!

I'm with Todd. We talked about getting a sequential light setup but the darn thing is to big to be integrated into the dash/viewing area. After all the Vette is on the road most of the time not the track so putting box'es on the dash just doesn't work in a $50,000.00 + sports car. I don't like having my radar visable either, that's why I hid the remote display in the center heater duct.
But don't mistake our quest for esthetics and a functional light as a mark on your product. Can you supply the display seperate from the controler?

Some of us older guys need road flares to get our attention. :D :D :D

OR, you can just put a nice big one inside the AC duct... I put the MSD unit (Really Bright), inside my AC duct... You can pick the RPMs where it lights, it is virtually invisible when off, but is completely visible (even in your peripheral vision) when on, even in bright sunlight...

Just my .02 but I like it! I am working on an interface that will make the light flash quickly whenever ping (detonation) is detected....

Now you see it.....

Now you dont ....
