I just got my Vararam and I noticed that the ram tubes have the lip shaved off where they use to fit around the filter. Is this right? Also they came with foam gaskets to attached to the ram tubes where they fit against the filter. They attach to the ram tubes where the lip looks shaved off. Is this a recent mod?
even with the gasket I don't see how you keep sand/dirt out of the TB.
I siliconed a trimmed K&N into the upper half used rubber bands and let it set up overnight. I then put a strip of adhiesive backed weather stripping around the inside perimeter to form a seal. This pic was taken after over 5000 miles thats what came out of the TB
The B2 model has two variants if you will. The first is the one they delivered with the Foam Filters, the second (and yes they still call it a B2?) came with the updated, re-usable, Green filter (though the filter started out actually grey). That version did cut away some portion of the lip, but I can't remember if it was on the tubes or the housing.
To convert the older B2 to the Green filter, you need to buy a new housing and filter. I, like VLVETTE, built a foam gasket and siliconed the slightly trimmed K&N filter...triumph I believe into the housing...no leaks at all
I'll take some pics tomorrow. I have the white filter.
Just seems like everything was thought out right up to the filter part. Then it was like BUBBA stepped in and finished the job. The ram tubes look great. The air box sucks.
I mean why should we be using silicone to fix something that shouldn't be broken to begin with. Not for $300...
CanAm, yeah, I had similar experience with the Vararam.
There is no question that the VR makes big power.
Too bad about the overall quality.
Maybe they should make two models: one cheaper (current) for the guys who are willing to modify it to properly fit and filter the air, and a more expensive one for the guys who want a quality product like the more expensive Callaway Honker.
Yea I have to agree the fit leaves alot to be desired but so does the fit on the Vette and I paid over $40,000 for it. After a few modifications I am satsified with the Vararam.

I found sand and grass in my accordian tube after a few weeks of driving with the "improved" B2. So I decided to silicone the filter in place. I agree though Vararam should step up and either urathane or silicone the filters in place before allowing anyone to risk their engine to trash bypassing a poorly designed filter. I'd think the VR rep would improve and end the debate.
I also have to add the factory filter ain't stopping the sand either. When I installed the Vararam the accordion also had sand in it, which I cleaned throughly.
I'm thinking of running sheet metal screws through the air box and into the filter all along the long sides of the filter to keep a snug fit and then silicone all of the sides.
I just bought a used VR unit and it came with the "B2 update" that included a double set of foam gaskets that seal the filter into the air box and the tubes to the filter and air box.
Mine came with those gaskets but they only seal the ram tubes to the filter. There are still gaps (big gaps) where the filter sits in the airbox. All the around the filter are gaps. There is so much slop where the ram tubes and the air box mate that it's impossible to get a good seal without filling the whole thing with silicone.

How about a few pic's
Mine came with the green filter, and it fits pretty well, would that mean I have the newer air box?
