ok guys im having problems with my battery or alternator, the problem started monday, i noticed in the morning it took 2 cranks instead of 1 to start the car, then tuesday it took 3 cranks to start, then this morning the dash read 11.2 volts and the car was having trouble starting. i think it might be the battery but i wanted to know if you guys might know something that i might not be thinking about. thanks in advance, albert.
kind of depends on how long and what type of battery first off.easy enough to pull the battery and have it checked as one way of elimination but first make sure the post connection are clean and tight. second would be to disconnect the - side and put an ammeter between the cable and the battery to read the current draw(ignition off). if i remember correctly it should be around 25 ma. third, if current is high (in sleep mode) there are fuses to pull to isolate the circuits but you can do a search in this forum to get more, and probably better , info. in other words, plenty of stuff to check!
if you are reading 11.2 volts at idle it may be the alternator or could be battery/connections. mine is around 13/14 at idle.
hope this helps!

My battery DIC info normally reads 11.4v or 11.2v (key on, not running) on first start up in the morning..but it starts quickly. 11.2 V is plenty to start...actually 9.5v is sufficient to start...you got another problem. Starter problem? Connection problem? ie. "short" ...let your local Advance Auto do a check on it with their analysis tester...
Hi, ----
1st thing to check AFTER MAKING SURE THE CABLES are TIGHT is that they CANNOT TURN OR MOVE ** as some bolts are too long & even though the bolt is tight -- it may STILL rorate or be loose !!!!!
Good Luck !!!

yup cause if it was your alternator then you would have some charging warnings from the DIC and you would also not be able to start the car the next time or the car would die while you were driving. A battery alone wont last long on a single charge if the alt was bad.
