It is recommended that if you re-use them (which many have done) that you use a die or something to chase the old loctite off of the threads and yes, fresh loctite is highly recommended.
I re-use mine and don't use loctite ! 125 lbs will hold anything!
put 6 sets of pads on so far nothings fell off !
Same here. I have to remove before and after track days so Locktite seems overkill. 125 lbs is definitely a lot
I actually use the same guide pin bolts. Cleaned the loctite off with tap screw. I just check them when I torque wheels between sessions to make sure they are not coming out. Seems like that was the consensus from the track guys.
Wow, that's interesting. All this time I thought the caliper bolts were torque-to-yield bolts, which should not be reused.
The bracket bolts require gorrilla torque(125?) The caliper bolts only re quire about 35/45? ft. lbs. It wouldn't take long to stress the caliper bolts , if you wasn't carefull and not over torqueing. Bob.
I reuse mine as well, a 14mm bolt can handle a torque of 125 as long as it's a higher grade bolt , like a 10.9 (grade 8) and I'm sure it is.
Bolts will stretch after a while of torquing and untorquing and these types of bolts, because they are important, should be replaced after a while, maybe 50 reuses or so. Headbolts do the same thing, after a while they will break.
But yes, use the Loctite Red (#272) unless you think you need the higher temp stuff (#274).
Why not ?? It can't hurt to make sure these bolts don't fall off.
