Default Re-use Caliper Bracket Bolts?

I purchased a 1/2" impact wrench to remove these....can I re-use them with re-applying red loctite?

I was worried about "hurting" them when I removed the from the 125 ft. pounds of torque + red loctite.

Thanks folks in advance.

Karl

It is recommended that if you re-use them (which many have done) that you use a die or something to chase the old loctite off of the threads and yes, fresh loctite is highly recommended.

GM says no because of legal liability
I personally have reused them numerous times

By the way, I have used a blow torch to heat the bracket a bit to soften the old loctite, and used an impact wrench to loosen them. Had no problems.

Ok, I meant a propane torch...I can see why you were bothered by that...

yeah but blow torches are kewel!

I re-use mine and don't use loctite ! 125 lbs will hold anything!

put 6 sets of pads on so far nothings fell off !

Same here. I have to remove before and after track days so Locktite seems overkill. 125 lbs is definitely a lot

I actually use the same guide pin bolts. Cleaned the loctite off with tap screw. I just check them when I torque wheels between sessions to make sure they are not coming out. Seems like that was the consensus from the track guys.

I reuse the caliper bolts and the caliper mount bolts

NEVER had any issues of any kind and I never bother with loctite

I reuse mine changing rotors and pads at least 10X per season..I change from bling to auto-x and back for each event.

In the beginning I just used a utility knife and wire brush...

But then I read a forum post and now I use two dies
M14x2.0 for the bracket bolt
M8x1.25 for the caliper bolt

cleaner threads, less time

Wow, that's interesting. All this time I thought the caliper bolts were torque-to-yield bolts, which should not be reused.

The bracket bolts require gorrilla torque(125?) The caliper bolts only re quire about 35/45? ft. lbs. It wouldn't take long to stress the caliper bolts , if you wasn't carefull and not over torqueing. Bob.

GM dealer had to remove mine used the same old bolts. I bet there are few dealers who bother to use new bolts.

I reuse mine as well, a 14mm bolt can handle a torque of 125 as long as it's a higher grade bolt , like a 10.9 (grade 8) and I'm sure it is.

Bolts will stretch after a while of torquing and untorquing and these types of bolts, because they are important, should be replaced after a while, maybe 50 reuses or so. Headbolts do the same thing, after a while they will break.

But yes, use the Loctite Red (#272) unless you think you need the higher temp stuff (#274).
Why not ?? It can't hurt to make sure these bolts don't fall off.
