Passenger side window doesn't go down - I hear an actuator clicking inside the component with the power windows switches when I try to lower window from either side, but nothing happens. I'm just glad it's in the "up" position.
What should I do? Pop that plastic thing out and try to see if something is broken? Or is the window stuck somehow?
I'd rather try myself first than take to the dealership...
This is a common problem. Its normally caused by lack of use. The motor brush contacts get corrosion on them, therefore the power doesn't go through to the motor windings. Usually, you can rap on the top edge of the window while pushing the down-switch and it'll go right on down. If this doesn't work, then you'll need to open up the door and make that motor move manually. Oh yes, listen for a click in the door control module, the relay. If you don't hear it, you might need to replace the relay. Try the easy stuff first.
That didn't work. Open up the door inside panel to get to the window - Yikes! Sounds like this might be one of those job that I can do, but never get the door panel back on right. I'll be thinking about the job - thanks for the advice.
As mentioned above, a fairly common issue...and if you're hearing teh relay click when you trip the switch, you're looking at just a stuck motor.
Pulling the panel isn't too bad. Check the general corvette section under audio and electronics for a couple of good write-ups. Basically, the panel pops off, you can quickly unscrew the speaker mounting and access the motor itself. For me, I was able to simply take a large screwdriver and give a quick rap on the very end of motor. Worked like a charm...'percussive maintenance' was the term another forum member used! Did this a couple springs in a row before finally deciding to get the whole motor assembly replaced under warranty.
Before you do that, hold down the power window down switch with the ignition on and open and slam the door a couple of times. Once it breaks loose, it will work. Don't be gentle. If you search the problem, you'll find many threads with suggestions and fixes. If my first suggestion doesn't work, do the same with the ignition and window switch with the door open and wiggle the black rubber covered wiring ***'y in the hinge and post what happens.
I had a sensor (or something like that) go out years ago. The right side window didnt work and neither did my dashboard gauges. The dealership replaced the sensor and the window and gauges worked ever since.
These windows are bad about working one day, and suddenly not working the next.
Beating on the door, slamming the door, etc. may work for awhile, but once they stick, you will probably end up having to replace the window regulator assembly.
The hardest part is getting the door panel off without breaking the fasteners. There is a large access panel, so getting the regulator out and replacing it is an easy job. If the window is sealing correctly, you can mark the position of the glass with masking tape (vertical and forward/backward) so you can put it back exactly in the same place.
I ended up replacing both regulator assemblies on my 04 Z06, and so far they are still working fine.
Open the panel, and hit the motor with a hammer. Did that last week, mine started working again. If it does not start working, maybe the relay. Not a big job.

It also helps to have the opposite door open (a little) to eliminate air resistance to get FULL effect of the door slam.
I have a 2001 that the passenger window worked randomly and finally stopped working. The car has low mileage and very little use of the passenger window. I looked in the service manual for instructions on removing the door panel. I thought it may be a loose connector or bad motor since I could hear the relay click when I pushed the down button. I decide to check here before starting and am glad I did. I followed a suggestion here of opening the drivers door and holding the passenger door window button while slaming the passenger door. Now the window works great. Thanks for the suggestions posted here. I plan to try to activate that window more often and hope I don't have to replace the motor due to bad contacts in it but will have to wait and see. Thanks for the time, effort and suggestions posted.
