Default LAPD stainless brake line install question

I'm in the process of putting in LAPD braided brake lines- the retainer clip is pretty soft. The lines don't have the notches that the OEM lines do to firmly hold it in place. I'm thinking about getting a washer (I measured it to just over 1/2"- maybe 9/16th will work..) and putting it there. Did you have to do this?

I would send them back and get VBP one's. Maybe they sent you the wrong ones.

Make sure the brake line is in the right place and the retainer clip is the right side up. I had a similar issue with mine and I broke two of the LAPD ones. Turns out I was trying to force them in upside down.

I ended up just reusing two of the stock ones. No problems.

My LAPD packaging had C5 written small on it. You could check the part number on the packaging and call LAPD to confirm.

On the LAPD lines. Which ones go in front and back?

I assume that the short ones go in the front and the long ones go in the back?

It's the opposite. The long ones go in front so that you can turn the wheels. The rear wheels do not turn. so they are shorter. At least that the way they are with other brands of stainless steel lines.

I'm not so sure about that (short iin back).. The LAPD Short lines are the same size as the stock in front.

Also, does anyone know what the torque spec for the banjo fitting to the caliper. The Chevy manual either says 37 ft lb or 30 ft lb depending where you read. I started with 37 ft lb and snapped it.

Thanks

Factory spec is 37 FT LB's for their banjo bolt. Guide Pins are 23 FT lbs.

2001 manual pages 5-74 / 5-75.

Tried 37 ft lbns. I have the manual too. It listed 37 ft lbs. in the brake line replacement instructions. However, in the front of the section it listed 30 ft. lbs as the sec.

So far I installed the LAPD's at 25 Ft. Lbs, and I still think this is too much. Also, the stock GM ones are more "stout" and can take way more torque.

I found this from Stoptech, and they list 14 ft lbs. Fittings and banjo bolts look the same as LAPD's.

Any more comments as to which ones go up front. I think the longer ones in the back in case you have to drop the suspension. Did that today too for Z06 springs.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I think the 30FT# was for the fitting at the hard plumb connection but not sure.

Look at your stock lines and see which ones are longer. I know my wilwoods have the longer line in front.

I have coilovers so my suspension doe noty droop that much.

I did a few other searches and a majority of the people say long in back.

I have the shorts in front for now. They turn properly and are long enough.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Glad you got it worked out.

Never used the LAPD ones because I did not like the fittings going into the calipers.

Plus they should sell them with installation instructions, etc...

Not to happy with LAPD anyway since they sold me a bum remote bleeder and I have to drove the tranny to replace. They gave me another replacement for free, big whoppee.

To many vendors out here selling parts with out installation instructions, etc...

Sorry for the rant, but it just not right.

I called LAPD to confirm. Short lines go in front and Long lines go in Back.

The banjo bolts should not be tightened to factory spec. Finger tight and tighten with a wrench to snug up / crush washer only.

They do not sell replacment hardware WTF. I got ordered some from a non supporting vendor who sells StopTech lines.

Save yourself alot of headaches and use VBP, no leaky banjo nuts, etc ...

Yeah, I did the VBP bushings and HD Tie Rod ends, along with the rear tranny mount.

I also have their poly motor mounts but haven't got around to installing them.
