Default DIC tire message

First I tried searching this. Found very little info. Maybe one post about a magnet held up to the tire stem? Anyway, when I start my car I get the front tire pressures showing on my DIC and sometimes no pressures just the words w/o the pressures. I think when I programmed a new fob I accidently reset someting called learn tires or tire training. How do I reprogramm this correctly?

TIA

Thanks to JDs00PewterCoupe for the below text.

I have used old computer hard disk magnets, and now use a nice block magnet I picked up at the local hardware store...

Resetting the TPS
1) Turn ignition on
2) Press "Reset" button in order to clear any IPC display warning messages
3) Press and release the "Options" button on the DIC to scroll through the display options until the IPC display is blank
4) Press and hold the DIC "Reset" button for 3 seconds
5) Press the "Options" button again until TIRE TRAINING message appears
6) Press "Reset" button until the IPC "Learn L Front Tire" message appears in order to begin the programming
7) Install the J41760 Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System Programming Tool (large magnet will do) over the left front valve stem
8) The horn will sound, indicating the left front TPM sensor is programmed (if this takes more than 15 seconds, pull magnet back and try again, it will give you three tries. Then you must start over)
9) When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order as directed by the IPC messages: -Learn R Front Tire -Learn R Rear Tire -Learn L Rear Tire Programming can be canceled by turning ignition off, waiting 2 minutes with no sensors being learned, finishing all 4 wheels or through the DIC.
If the programming is canceled with less than 4 sensors learned, it will only accept the codes programmed up to that point.

Your sensors may be on there way out, GM rates the sensors @ 7 years or 100,000 miles. I can rebuild your sensors (new batteries). I also have a programming tool for $15 shipped. Try to re-program the sensors first to see if that will work, usually thats the case.

Default Tps

Thanks guys!

Can I just proceed to the next tire after I do one or do I have to do something with the DIC between each wheel? Also my DIC says 30 and a gauge reads 35 so which one should I believe?

Once it honks, read your DIC and move on to the tire instructed. It will honk after each...ask me how I know? Im going thru this myself.
Mine keeps coming up Lxxx R32, and it always changes wheels! Its really annoying. I just keep reprogramming hoping that it will fix itself...

I did it! Don't know if it will help (it should since it hasn't been done since new tires were added) but at least I learned something that I'll pass on to a newbie someday.

I just did it yesterday.
First put air to each of tire .....like 30 PSI....
then drive your C5 for ten minutes in freeway...
Then back in your garage ....recheck all tire with handheld air gauge and readjust to each tire ( like 30 PSI ). Then relearn each tire when tires are warm ....
This time reading very close .....+/- 1%.....

I believe all tire pressures should be checked cold. They pick up about 2-4 pounds when they get hot. If you set them at 30 hot then when you start out in the morning the DIC will tell you tires are low since they will be until they warm up.

right, I set my fronts to 31 and rears to 30 cold - normal street driving will bring them up to ~35 and track days will bring them up over 40... always set them cold unless you are going to account for temperature enduced pressure change, and set them at a higher psi after driving than you would normally set them cold...

Question: I have been able to successfully program the LF and RF wheels (horn sounds for each front wheel.) But I am unable to get the Right Rear wheel sensor to program....no horn.

Could the sensor be damaged or missing? I just purchased this car a couple weeks ago. The CHECK TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYTEM warning has been displayed ever since I test drove this C5.

ThanKs!

Since your sensors are 8 years old, the batteries may be starting to go bad.

Thanks! What are my options? Are changing the batteries any big deal?
