Hey everyone i'm new to the corvette world, I just purchased my new 04 vette and loving it!! and I would like to know what mods would vette owners prefer? I'm looking at some intakes, exhaust, maf sensors and programers and wondering which is the better choices? your imput would be much appreciated. thanks!
It really depends on how fast you want to do it, how far you want to go and what you will be using the hp for. Exhaust is always a good place to start because no matter how far you go, you will want to do them. Then it is just a matter of how much hp you want and how soon. If you want quick high hp, just hang around the FI section for a couple of days; those guys get insane hp and it gets most people wet just thinking about it. If you want to do it in stages, it still helps to know where you want to end up. Intakes, maf, injectors etc may not be needed. A good h/c pkg always works. But somehwere along the way you will want a tune. Hope this helps.
The first mods folks will do for little money would be a true cold air intake that take in air from outside the car. Some examples of CAI are the vararam, Callaway Honker, Vortes Rammer (I'm sure there are some others I'm missing) and a tune. For a bit more money, headers with high flow cats and an X-pipe is a popular mod that yields some decent power. Gears are also a popular choice with great SOTP improvement. THere are a lot of things out there that won't do much for you. A throttle body bypass will gain you very little, you do not need a new MAF sensor and there will be no SOTP improvement with a 160 degree thermostat in my humble opinion. An aftermarket cat back exhaust also get you very little but they do sound good and the majority of folks on the forum have one. Also in my opinion, you would be well served to plan your mods and then get a professional tune when you are ready. So I have covered most of the basic bolt ons althoug if you have an automatic, a high stall torque converter can make you car quicker. Beyond the bolt-ons you start to get into Heads and cams where you can achieve big power. Also Forced injection is a way to get alot more power with out cracking the engine open. Before you do anything, I would suggest you check out the post by England Green on engine modification. There is a price to be paid for any mod beyond a CAI. Thats it, I've run out of hot air, hope it was helpful.

Welcome aboard! I spent a great deal of time and effort researching performance parts as part of a well-balanced package for my 2004 C5 Coupe, which has paid big dividends in terms of power, reliability and streetability. Check out this link for details. Enjoy your new vette! Mike
There's a wide spectrum of options - from mild to wild. I purchased my '04 knowing that I would run it on road course events to learn to drive in a high performance enviornment (HPDE). Most mods were nice upgrades that you can do in stages, while others, e.g., blown LS1 engine, was a good time for me to upgrade to an LS6-based 383 forged stroker.
