2001 MN6 Was told GM did recall, stopped working for the first time so i installed the CLB... NOTHING!! Pulled all fuses 23 25 27 29. Nothing. Stuck at work, got no ride, what now? Battery?
Not sure I understand your problem, but if you get the "service column lock" message on your DIC and your column is locked, a aftermarket CLB will NOT work. Your cloumn must be unlocked for CLB to work.
Try jerking the steering wheel, really hard and try the key.
Can anything be done to unlock the steering column once it has locked up?
Sometimes; turn the ignition OFF and REMOVE the key. Shock your lock motor actuator assembly by jerking the steering wheel against the stops. Re-insert your key and try again. Also, if your battery voltage is low, charge your battery or replace it. ( or use jumper cables to jump start it from another car)
What message did you get in the Driver Information Center?
If you are saying the car will not even turn over, then the problem is more than just the column lock.
Q For MN6/M12 cars what can I do if this situation occurs?
A Go into your passenger footwell. Remove your BCM and locate the recall mod relay, remove it and add a jumper wire between the white wire (pin 30) and the orange wire (pin 87). Note that there are two orange wires, so make sure you get the right one!
Is this what I have to do ? If so what is a "jumper"?
Is the DIC giving you a message? If not, did you install the CLB while the column was locked? The column will not unlock if this is the case. You need to install the CLB with the column unlocked.
To do this, disconnect the CLB, reconnect the column lock and turn the key on. When the column unlocks, disconnect it and install the CLB (leave the key on while doing this). If the column will not unlock when reconnected and with the key on, you may try jerking the wheel like Oldvetter said. This didn't work for me...I had to remove the column shroud and smack the lock solenoid a few times with something (I used a ratchet - all I had with me at the time).
Sorry when I said "nothing" I just meant the column didnt unlock, I have now been informed that it must be installed when the column is not locked. Now just how to unlock it... Today I did use a multimeter to check the Key to find out which resistor it was to get a key made... Coincidence? I think tomorrow I may try to get another key made which they will probably have to send out for... In the meantime what else can I try, Thanks for all the great help guys.
If your current key starts the car, it is not the key. The "pull key and wait 10 seconds" is not necessarily the column lock problem, it can be a dirty or faulty key resistor pellet.
Part of the problem with the column lock problem is that everything must happen in sequence. If you turn key too fast or "double turn" the key, it can throw off timing and you can get the message(s).
Your problem is that your column lock actuator motor is not running for some reason. It could be a relay in the K-harness or the actuator motor itself.

"Update 50. HURAYY!! Got the lock to release with TS tip #504. JErk left then HOLD Right WHILE you turn the key. Worked amazing and released. Now, I have the CLB, So if I install that now will I be fine? As I mention I do have the White Purple Green and Black wire indicated I have the recall done, so... "
