This is my first winter back in the Vette business (in cold Michigan). 98 C5 ragtop. Reluctantly put the car in a ministorage facility for the Winter. Should I go over and run it every couple weeks or so, or is it better to just leave it alone till April? I've heard experts on both sides. "Run it" guys say keeps engine lubed and rust from forming in cylinders. "Leave it alone" guys say running it creates vapors/moisture that just causes more problems. Curious what you guys think?
I just set mine up three weeks ago. Parked it in my garage on 2' squares of plush carpet, attached a Battery Tender, filled the tank with 94 octane petrol with storage Stabile and disconnected the fuse to thefuel pump. Every two weeks I turn the engine over for about 30 seconds to lube it. So far so good. I would appreciate comments. Rad :yesnod:
I fall in the "no start" camp. On my 90, I used to pull the plugs and spray the cylinders with an oil spray used for outboard motors. There are dessicant plugs you can put in the spark plugs holes also, Eastwood carries them. I also have the "Carbag" that the car goes into and then you zip it up and put in dessicant. The car will stay dry all winter, your rotors won't even rust!!! This year, I am going to park the car on about 2" of styrofoam insulation and let it sink in. I think this will support the tires better and prevent any flat spots in the spring. I am going to pull the battery rather then leave the tender on it. Nervous about letting that run all winter inside the carbag.
I have driven Vette's for 30 years - starting them every 2-3 weeks and driving them when you can works for me. Just got back from a spirited one hour drive. Winter so far in Wisconsin has been great - no snow and temperature today in the 35-40 degree range.
