Default LS1 head removal

Ok, i did the search, found nothing. I replaced the spark plugs today on my 2000 coupe, and yeah...#7 wasnt coming out the best, and well...didnt really go in at all, so i gave it some help...I am guessing im going to take the head off and take it somewhere to be fixed, is there a write up on it? whats book time on taking the head off and do you have to take the cam out to do it? If the cam doesnt have to come out, i would imagine it would be pretty simple and straight forward?

You certainly do not have to take the cam out to get the head off. But if you are asking that, is this really a job that you want to tackle? Have you tried a spark plug tap to clean up the threads before just pulling the head?

plug wont go in, i figured the damage was already done, so i ran it in about a turn to get the car home where i could take it apart and let it sit. can you get a spark plug tap into the 7th cylinder? Where can you get a spark plug tap? i ran over to a checker store to see if they had one before i ran the plug in, and they didnt. Anybody know book time on R&I of a cylinder head?

Don't give up so easy.Any Napa or parts store will have a tap.Even if you need to remove the header to do the job it will be a lot cheaper then pulling the head.Have you asked a Vette shop how much to rethread the hole?
Good luck.

No offense, but if you have to ask if you have to remove the cam to take a head off, you are probably better off taking it to a shop to get it fixed.
