I don't speak from experience on this one, but here are some things which I understand can help:

install an X pipe in place of the H pipe. reduces the poping on deceleration in particular, also supposedly takes the edge off the drone. I don't like the drone of my stiners, but the burble sound on decel is my favorite part of the exhaust, so I'm not going to do this.

put some type of insulation in the 3 tubs in the rear of the car, its supposed to do wonders for reducing exhaust/road noise.

put some kind of sound deadening on the floor under the carpet in the back, and front too if you like.

if you do any of these, let me know! my Borla drone is not too bad at all, but I want to add headers eventually, and I know it will get worse, so I may have to compensate for it. other than the drone its the best sounding C5 exhaust system I've ever heard.

Default Borla drone

My drone went away after installing American Racing headers with high flow cats. It's still loud when I get on it but I don't need ear plugs at cruising speed.

x pipe will help and from the yes the dynomat will help a lot.. put it down in the 57 chev. works good but the stuff is heavy...

What???
I'd love to hear your car because mine is louder than ever with the AR headers, x-pipe and Stingers. Not that I mind

Check out Mike Mercury's web page for install steps where he added frost king insulation. It's so much cheaper than dynamat, and gives great results.

If you dont like the sound of the Borlas, adding an X pipe will not help. the money spend on the other mods may be better suited for differnt exhaust set ups. Corsa or GHLs

and Yes you will have drone no matter what. I think ppl get use to the drone and no longer hear it. But it is still there

I had the same problem you have now. I have a 99 with an auto and borla stingers. The exhaust drone from 1500rpm to about 1900rpm was deafening, especially when driving on a long trip. Now after a month or research on the sound deadening stuff I ended up with RAMM audio sound deadener. I installed two layers of it as well as a foam product they sell. I also followed the popular "x-pipe" theory. Well that one is a bunch of crap. My exhaust sounds just as loud. The sound deadener did seem to help a little from about 1600 to 1900rpms, but 1500rpm is still "painful". Perhaps the dynamat will give diffferent results, but in the end replacing the exhaust will be you best bet. I still have my borlas and I will tolerate them as much as I can....Good luck....Tony
