I had a similar problem. It wasn't only on downshifts, though. It started out being difficult to get into reverse and first. Then I started having intermittent issues with all the gears. It seemed to get worse when everything got hot. We tried bleeding the clutch and changing the transmission fluid. That didn't help. After talking to RPM, I realized I had a clutch release issue. The funny thing was, I had been running the same clutch for 2 1/2 years. The problems started after getting the 402 installed. We put in an adjustable clutch master cylinder and the problem is solved. I'm sure this had to have shortened the life of my transmission, but it is working fine for now.
What MC did you go with? Was your trans fluid nasty when you drained it? I am not blaming D&D for any of this, upon further reflection I shall place the blame on the LS7 clutch I had in here before I put the textralia in. I had engagement issues with that.
I went with the Mcleod....bought it from Texas Speed.
I didn't do the wrenching, so I'm not sure what the transmission fluid looked like. I don't seem to recall it being anything out of the ordinary or my mechanic would have said something....he is very detail oriented. The tranny fluid change didn't make a bit of difference for me.

Put the back wheels in the air, start the engine, and go through the gears keeping the clutch disengaged. See if the back wheels turn.
Might be a clutch issue.

That is some damn fine advice! Thank you my friend! That would be an easy way to tell if an adjustable slave would take care of the problem, no? I'm wondering how much I could have shortened the life of the trans, I really wish I saved the fluid that came out, I didn't think of it until it was too late and it was already in my oil drain pan (changed the oil at the same time, THANK GOD THAT LOOKED GREAT!!)
