I can't believe all I have read on this subject.. But no one has talked about scales, bump steer gauges. some even running without re-align.. toe settings are a major performance tool not to mention caster camber years of tech is lost if you lower and not reset EVERYTHING ... any one ever check shock travel after lowering??? ashpalt round track racer
Re: Lowering, bump steer, no re-aling /???? (huffyred00)
I'd like to know more about how you measure bump steer or a bump steer gauge, who has them, who normally does that kinda work, etc... The alignment guy??
When do we add the bump steer kit, before or after measuring? Do we get an adjustable bump steer kit and tweak it while measuring??
Re: Lowering, bump steer, no re-aling /???? (MelloYellow)
the way we check bump steer is with the shocks, sway bar, spring <coil over>disconnected. the shims go between the steering arm and the tie rod after you get the first reading. then suspension must be raised and lowered <jack ect> to see the changes in runout on the dial indicator.. You can get bump steer gauges at most racing parts <round track racing> suppliers. you probably have a friend that has a round track car ,if so check with him. the suspension travel in a vette is not as much as a race car but the setting is still important ... do this AFTER you lower the car

I have yet to hear anyone re-adjust their headlights after lowereing either.
I thought of it but did not do it either. I lowered mine more in the rear than the front so maybe that compensated for it.
Anyone else?
Sorry to get off topic a little.

Just wanted to point out that some of us are checking corner weights and realigning after lowering. :)
I told the alignment shop to lower exactly 15mm, which they painstakingly did. I checked it on the scales both before and after to make sure the lowering was done evenly and didn't give me a bunch of cross. As it turns out, with driver the corner weights improved after lowering, since from the factory it wasn't all that well balanced. Unfortunately, there's no way to get rid of the left side weight bias without lightening up the left side of the car by removing important things like the driver seat, steering wheel, and driver door!
