I just installed texas speed long tubes on my 2001 coupe. I put the long tubes, X pipe, and I deleted my cats. I also changed my plugs to NGK tr55 and new plug wires. The car was running fine until the gas gauge went to emplty after i just filled it. So I took it to the dealership to get it check out and they had to do all kinds of work to it including (new gas tank, sending unit, and PCM) my check engine light is on because I deleted the cats and two of the O2 sensers are gone, but when I got the car back it developed a miss at 65mph. The car will start missing very badly at 65 but seems to run fine other times. Everything seems ok so im very confused. Thanks for any advice
Sounds like when you had your exhaust work done--the welding had some affect on your electrical system--happens quite often as components will take a spike from the welder--Many exhausts shops always dis-connect the battery when welding--
As far as the miss goes---it can be so many different things that it would be tough to diagnose without the car--Start with the usual things and work forward--check all the plugs---again--maybe one got banged and closed up--the wires--coils--connectors--injectors--vacuum lines--MAF---
I did all the exhaust work myself it was a direct bolt on... I guess i'm going to have to just start taking things apart do you think if i got O2 simulators and a tune it would help the miss?
Yea thats what I was think that the O2's where just throwing exhaust codes. The problem never really started until the dealership put the new PCM in so im thinking it could have something to do with that but im not sure what it could be because it was running great. but we'll see its going back to the dealer today
You might want to check the ground wires, some installs have you unhook the ones at the back of the engine. I'd also check the plug wires, if you have a bad one, you could miss, and the electical interferance created could do other funny things.
Why did they need to replace the PCM? If it ran fine before the fuel tank replacement and bad after, I would look at those areas where they did the work. I wouldn't think they needed to touch the front O2's and the rear O2's wouldn't cause the problems you describe.
Has it thrown any codes? Do you have access to Autotap or another scan tool so you can watch things when the miss develops?
They replaced the PCM because they said it wasn't reading the sending unit. I didn't think the o2 sensors would cause that problem.. They said that the sending unit is still bad even after they replaced it thats why my fuel gauge isn't working right but who knows it goes in today. they scanned the computer for me and the only codes its throwing is O2 sensor and the fuel. It didn't have anything that would answer the miss. I'm still wondering if i get a mail in order tune if that will help... i just changed the plugs and wires so i really don't think thats it unless one was already damaged but well see. I didn't have to move any wires on the install it was just a straight bolt in.. i had to moddify the tunnel plate for the front O2 sensors to fit but thats it.
The place where you had your car tuned should be willing to give you the same tune for free.
I would think that could very well clear up your engine miss.
Also check the plug wires to ensure they're tight and sparkplugs look good.
I once had my LS1 literally sabatoged by the Chevy dealer when it went in for body damage work. Someone intentionally coated my #1 sparkplug with goop, keeping it from firing. The #1 plug on the F-body is the only one accessible without removing other stuff and all of my other plugs were fine. I can't imagine why some jerk in the shop would do such a thing, but you never know.
This is all suspicious. I would avoid that dealer in the future. Check the wiring and ground. Also ensure you have a good tuner; he should be able to help....I cannot imagine why the gas tank was replaced.....Also check the fuel filter near the tank; and ensure the sending unit was installed correctly.
