Tried to start car, acted like trans was not in park. Would not engage starter. A few minutes later, it would turn over, start, run for a few seconds and stop. A few more minutes later it started and ran fine. Probably nothing to do with incident, but what should the "battery voltage" read on the display with the headlights and air conditioning on? Thanks for help.
Maybe the safety switch is bad or in need of adjustment.....if it does this again try putting shifter in neutral and see if it starts. If it starts normally then, I'd concentrate on the switch.
check the connection to the battery...if there is any corrosion (that happens a lot) or if the connection isn't perfect, you could experience sporadic starting problems. I've had this in the past and it turned out to be the battery because the positive post had leaked acid and slightly corroded the connector. So even though I had a new battery, I had problems until GM replaced the positive lead to the battery (under warranty).
