Default best air induction systems

I'm going to buy an air induction system, which is the best. How hard is it to put on? Also, what's a powerloader, and what hp gains wirh it?

C5King,

Welcome to the Forum! :)

You might want to do a search on this...Top right hand corner. This question
has been recycled quite often, usually with new members.

Be ready though, you'll find that 'opinions' vary on 'best'.

Good luck

C5King- there are many good intakes out there...
The cold air types- Halltech, Vortex Rammer, etc require cutting of the shroud and therefore require more tools and know how. Still very basic install.
Underhood types- Donaldson Blackwing, Volant, etc do not require cutting and usually do not require more than a flat blade screw driver to install. The Blackwing is the only one that can be both, with a cold air cover bought seperately.
There are alot of opinions about which intake style is better. Cold air types work well because they take in cool air from outside the engine compartment. But, do they out perform the non cold air intakes? Its hard to say. At speed, there is a difference, but minimal in hp.
The powerloader is a hand held unit that is custom programmed based on modifications on your car. It also resets shift points for automatics, eliminates CAGS for 6 spd cars and can increase rpm redline. HP and Torque are also gained w/pcm performance tuning. Simple installation. True! The only real debate is whether or not to go COLD AIR or not to go COLD AIR...that is the question. Your environment will effect this decision...if you like in a very wet place it'd prolly be smart to get an underhood unit like the Donaldson. If weather is really not an issue then get a cold air kit like the Vortex, Halltech or MTI Ram Air. There is a noticeable difference between the underhood and cold air kits.

Welcome to the forum. I've had three different cold air manufacturer's units and all of them performed the same as far as I'm convcerned. I've settled in with the MTI true ram air and like it the best due to design and reasonable cost factor. Good luck and enjoy your C5.
