The cold air types- Halltech, Vortex Rammer, etc require cutting of the shroud and therefore require more tools and know how. Still very basic install.
Underhood types- Donaldson Blackwing, Volant, etc do not require cutting and usually do not require more than a flat blade screw driver to install. The Blackwing is the only one that can be both, with a cold air cover bought seperately.
There are alot of opinions about which intake style is better. Cold air types work well because they take in cool air from outside the engine compartment. But, do they out perform the non cold air intakes? Its hard to say. At speed, there is a difference, but minimal in hp.
The powerloader is a hand held unit that is custom programmed based on modifications on your car. It also resets shift points for automatics, eliminates CAGS for 6 spd cars and can increase rpm redline. HP and Torque are also gained w/pcm performance tuning. Simple installation.
