Not going to do that. I'll spend the couple hundred bucks to fix these problems then I'll drive it. It drives and runs sweet! It should give years of reliable service. It only has 77k miles on it.
Good luck with that.......and good luck on only spending a couple hundred bucks.
So, how do you support the engine while the cross member is out?? It says in the shop manual to remove the alternator and hook something, special tool # J 41803 "engine support fixture", to that bracket to support the engine. Anyone know what that is, or looks like?? Thanks for all your help!!

Even if I spend a little more than that, so what?? I still have a lower mileage car that I plan on driving as often as possible. It isn't going to be a garage queen by any means.

Jason.
Take your shop manual ... go to FRONT SUSPENSION, and go to the VERY LAST page of that section. There are the "Special Tools and Equipment" needed, including a drawing of J41803. You should also use J28467-B according to my manual. It also says you need a J33432A transverse spring compressor. All are shown on that page.
just a suggestion, but i'd take that to a shop that I trust and let them put it on a frame jig and make sure everything lines up.. You might be kicking yourself down the road when you wear out a bunch of suspension/steering parts if you could have tweaked it back into acceptable tolerances.. Otherwise, drive it like you stole.. someone else obviously did

Ok...I found the illustrations. Now where do I get the tools??

I'm sure it's not a trivial job to swap out the front cross member. That's why I suggested contacting an expert shop to see if they could repair it on the car. The piece that's torn up can be fixed and new gussets added to bring it's strength back to 100% or better. If the cross member isn't bent up otherwise, it would be much easier to just weld up the damage IMO.
Go get the frame and alignment checked out, and if it's all OK then just weld up the damaged cross member while it's on the car.
The front end is nothing to mess with if something else is wrong that you haven't seen someday on a road somewhere you could end with a problem that could cause you to have to replace the whole car just my 2cent worth.
Or, just put a jack under the bellhousing to support the engine.
He wants to remove and replace the front crossmember, which is what the engine mounts are attached to. So, he has to "hang" the entire engine while dropping the crossmember out from under it (with the engine mounts disconnected) and then raise the new crossmember into place, attach it to the frame, and then lower the engine back onto the engine mounts/crossmember and attach it.
It ripped the insert right out of the frame!! I am going to try and weld the insert back in tomorrow after work. So, wish me luck!!
HA! EXACT same thing happened to my car! I **** my pants when I saw it! As it turns out, it wasn't that big of a deal to fix, I have a buddy who is a welder and he fixed me right up.
