Default Correct O ring install-PU tube

I assembled my LS6 last week. It came back to me from the machine shop as a short block. Anyway, the oil pick up tube and pans were not installed. I put everything together and was thinking I was about done until I read that thread about low oil pressure and O ring. Of course, I didn't install one. I have it apart now and I'd like to confirm I have it in the right place. Does this look right or down on the tube???

Thanks....gp

Looks to me like you have it stretched over the part of the tube that restrains it, i.e., its down too far.

thats where it belongs, However, Id recomend you install it into the pump with some grease since u got the motor on a stand, youll be able to make sure its on the pump exactly where it belongs.

I did it this way on mine and it turned out well.

Thanks guys. Now I can put it back together with confidence. I can't believe how close I came to destroying my new engine (no o ring). CF saved the day when I happend to read the low oil pressure post last night. Even though I hadn't torqued the oil pan yet and the gasket looks fine, I think I'll invest in a new oil pan gasket anyway. Thanks again.....gp

Why are you putting an engine together without a manual to refer to?

Had you had it, steps 5&6 would had prevented this gaggle.

From the service manual....

#5 Lubricate a NEW oil pump screen O-ring seal with clean engine oil.
#6 Install the NEW O-ring seal onto the oil pump screen.
