LS1/6 Hop-up Tricks?
Hey all, I am researching for an engine that I want to build for a 63 project Corvette. I am trying to decide between a big block (along the lines of a ZL1-block-based, or similar aluminum engine) or an Gen III small block. My power demands aren't earth-shattering; I want to be around 500 horsepower and similar torque numbers. I am more concerned with weight; as I am going with a relatively light car. I also want the setup to look trick, and fuel injection is a must. I am thinking I could come out ahead with the small block, and it would also be better for cruising (this will mainly be a street car with a few passes a year at the strip). So what can I do to an LS1/6 to make that kind of power? Anyone have leads on where to get a donor engine? Thanks for your time, and I look forward to your insights!

LS1'a are abound in junk yards now. you can get an entire drivetrain w/all the PCM's, wiring and sensors for a song. try to get vehicle history, mileage, etc. before rendering your decision. preferrably a low mile F or Y body that got totalled. i'd then spend the $$ and have the motor and slush box built like a *****. for reliable 500rwhp i'd have it bored/stroked by a respectable builder like ARE, MTI, etc. ARE is in Ontario...not too far from you. they have 422 and 431 stroker packages that are putting big smiles on faces. you'd be very happy with this setup. if you dont have the $$ to build a stroker right away, then strap on a nitrous system (with the works) for ~$1200 until you got the $$ to do bigger things with the motor. see my sig-
