Fellow members help me out, I have a 2001 Z06 4000 miles no major mods. I was driving in heavy traffic on the freeway, while rolling about 5-10 mph the car suddenly dies, the lights stayed on, but the tach went to zero and it would not turn over, I tried to turn it over and it would crank, but not start, I tried this as I was rolling witht the clutch in. I finally pulled over and pulled the key out, I stuck the key back in and it started right away. I drove to my christmas party and home (no traffic) with no problems. All the presets for radio etc were the same, but the oil lifer meter went to 100% when it was at 40%. I drove the car again last nigh with no further problems, any ideas? Has this happened to anyone before?
Thanks all.
HAppy holidays.
Doc. Ross
Bad battery connection maybe. I had the same thing happen to me. I also see you have a aftermarket stereo like me. Turns out the battery connection was loose I tighten it and it has never happend again. The Gauges went wacko and the car died. Check the connection.
Re: 2001 suddenly died on freeway! HELP! (Buckmaster)
Hmmm, never thought about the battery connection, I will check that out! I will retrieve the codes tonight, is the process in the the manual? After I retrieve the codes how do I interpert them? Thanks again!
Hey Doc!! Sometimes these cars have "stupid attacks"! My 00 vert had a similar problem. Once I restarted it had no problems, and it never happened again.
Re: 2001 suddenly died on freeway! HELP! (wallstAL)
Pulling DIC codes:
0. Have pen & paper ready
1. turn key on and let message cycle through (Vette by Chevy)
2. press and hold the options button down.
3. press the fuel button rapidly 4 times.
4. right down the codes and make a post for explaination or IM/e-mail me.
codes that have a trailing "C" or "H" after them indicate a Current or History code.
Big Mahalo to Gary and Bill and all who posted a quick reply! I am gonna try and retrieve the codes tomorrow. I hope this was an isolated gremlin :troll :troll
I had a similar problem when I first got my car. It would die unexpectedly and then after a couple of minutes would start and be OK for a while until the next time.
Went to the dealer and they replaced all kinds of sensors and etc. but the car still died. I finally asked them to replace the PCM. They said, it could not be that!!!!
Went to another dealer-- they immediately replaced the PCM, -- car has been fine ever since!!
