Default Kooks X-pipe not expanded enough?

I bought the Kooks 3x3" O/R X-pipe which is sitting in my living room...it appears as if the pipes that slip over the X-section to connect to the stock cat-back are not big enough. In other words, it appears as if the rear pipes were not expanded enough to slip over the front section pipes...

Has anyone else had this issue?

I had that issue with a y-pipe for a F Body but not a Vette. It was not expanded enough so I had to take it to a muffler shop to get expanded.

Yeah seems like that's what I'll have to do. This is some BS considering it was $400.

surley you must be mistaken?..are you suggesting that just possibly one of the corvette taxing, high dollar part suppliers could have manufactued and then sold a part that may need some mod to fit yo vette?.... it can not be!...say it aint so! ...I was sure after reading this forum that only two of the suppliers(tsp& ssac) would dare to sell to us vette owners such sub-standard parts!!!

I just installed a Kooks 3" x-pipe on my car. One side slipped right on, and the other wasn't so easy. We just took some pliers and opened up the slip joint end enough for it to slide on.

Unless the entirely wrong parts got packed, you shouldn't have to take it to a muffler shop. Good luck with the install!

I called Kooks and they didn't want to hear it. Not impressed with their customer service at all.

You can get an expander from your local parts shop that will fix your problem. No biggy.........................I ordered 3" for my R/T I used to have....instead I was sent an Omni system. Now that's a biggy. Hahah good luck.

I don't believe that for a second. The folks at Kook's are great to work with and very responsive. I bought a set of hi-flow cats from one of their dealers and got the old ceramic core type - the car starting throwing some codes. I called Kook's and they said I should have gotten metal matrix cats and the set I got was probably in the dealer's inventory for a while. They sent out the new metal matrix cats immediately with a return ticket for the other cats - no questions asked. Didn't cost me a dime.

Kook's is a great company and they make a great header.

I called you George but no answer.

Just a quick update for everyone:
I took the pipes to a muffler shop and had them expanded.

I installed the headers last night...the install sucked but they fit good once bolted up. The X-pipe, however....WAY off at the collectors (got it to work with a big f'n hammer) and the cat-back doesn't line up right because of it. There's also MAYBE 1/16" clearance between the x-pipe and tunnel on one side, and about 2 inches on the other. I'm simply speechless. So much for spending $$ on "quality stuff" to "do it once and do it right". The quality of this midpipe reminds me of the $120 Pacesetter midpipe I had on my Camaro.

I'm glad you got it worked out. My SSAC headers went on smooth as eggs.

The headers fit fine once they were in place. The x-pipe...not so much.

Same here. The headers fit perfectly, the x-pipe...not so much. I pulled on a pry bar while my installer forced the x-pipe against the headers. They fit with an extra set of hands, a little elbow grease and a little bicep action.
