VaraRam!! The hp gains with all intakes will vary. I can attest that with this VaraRam, my "azzdyno" could definitely tell a difference in throttle response.

Breathless Vortex
K&N FIPK
Callaway Honker

We started with the breathless and moved on down the line all intakes got 3 pulls with no tuning, all timing was set at 29* total and the af ran at 13.1-13.2:1 on all of the pulls

here are the dyno sheets

A comparison of all 3

Green callaway
red K&N
Blue Vortex

Here is the 3 vortex pulls

The 3 K&N pulls

The 3 callaway pulls

All tests were within 15 minutes of eachother start to finish

I agree with Deb. Alot of people here in the NE forum have Vararams, and are NOT afraid of hydrolock . That is so done as far as any valid criticism of a VRB2 . The install IS a pain though, as a first mod, and from what I've read here, it MAY be an issue in CA with the smog restrictions, so check that out first. The Honker by Calloway is 50 state legal, but it is around $500 plus shipping and the install price. The VRB2 can be found for around $300 new with shipping here on the forum, and maybe cheaper for a used one. That price for an install and a tune is ridiculous.A tune should be anywhere from $150 to $500 depending on engine mods and HP.That is what they get around here. Do some research first, and ask some other members in your area. A tune will definitely help with any of these CAI mods. Good luck.

Don't listen to Ike .Yeah, I know your car will smoke mine Ike, but I don't have the heads, cam, and gears you got from ECS.
BTW, the dyno sheets on the Vararam don't show the same results ( true performance gains) because it draws in COLD AIR at speed, which is not represented on a dyno with the car strapped down.

Is it CA legal? Search this database.

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...rmktdevice.php

Use the 'find on this page' function. Click on the .pdf and print it out for your glovebox.

If performance is the goal-

Instead of wasting hours reading other peoples opinions - see if you can spend an afternoon at the local track. Corvette owners will glady share their experiances. You can see the the installed products and timeslips dont lie.

I believe the K&N FIPK is also legal in all 50 states, but certainly, the Callaway is one of the best. Believe me, it is no small task to remove a Vararam, install a stock box, remove it, and once again install the Vararam every 2 years when you need a smog test. I can swap out my Halltech in 30 minutes or less, so it's no big deal, but I wouldn't want to do the same with a Vararam.

Thus, my advice is to either get a legal intake or one that is easily swapped out when you need to.

I made my choice on looks alone. Just did not see where I was going to see any "real" increase as I do not track the car.

Good Luck

Did you feel any difference after the install? Did you get a dyno tune? I month or so after I installed my VaraRam I got a dyno tune. I know the cars are supposed to tune themselves, but i was still running lean and knocking.

I took a couple of days for the idle to settle in, and there is a lot more intake sound when I gag it..........I think that it is more responsive.......but no data to verify.

I have not gotten a tune, I don't track the car so as long as things are working well I am happy at present.

I have a Hurricane with a dyno tune and very happy with the setup. Last summer I was in a turrential down pour on the interstate and no issues with hydrolock.

I am interested in the filter surface size vs. the Honker or BPP Vortex filter? Do you know that info?

Honker in the center, Vararam on top, Stock on the bottom.

That is quite informative. That stock FLIP TIE mod may be worth trying.

Thanks to everyone who offered sound and respectful input. I appreciate the different opinions, pictures, info.

I'm now told that I won't notice the 20 extra HP affored by the CAI. Not sure I believe that but maybe $600 is a little too much $ to spend just to capture 20 more HP. Maybe I'll just get the vette dyno tuned. I'm trying to be smart about the mod fever I have and know I have a lot to learn as I'm new to this and as a gal feel a bit vulnerable when taking the car in for work. I'll keep researching before I spend a chunk of change.

Thanks again

Not to thread jack, but does the hurricane require you to cut anything... I'm going to get somthing and would rather not cut a bunch of shroud or radiator cover, etc.

THanks in advance!
