Default quick shifter install question

i've got a used kirban shifter i'm about to put on my c5 m6.
he threw some rtv sealant for the gasket in there for me when he shipped it.
i'm looking online at the install, and most of them are the hurst installs, and it shows a new grey foam/rubber gasket that goes between the body of the shifter to the shifter housing.
do these come with the new shifter kits?
cause i also saw one on a stock shifter dissasembley guide and havent read anywhere if your supposed to use the old one, or a supplied one, ect..

just want to know before hand, so i dont tear it all apart and find that i need a new gasket right in the middle of it all.

thanks for any help!

Some shifters come with an opaque plastic gasket, some come with a foam type gasket, some with a thin paper gasket...and some owners prefer to install theirs with RTV silicone or a combination.
All you need is a light application of silicone as no fluids should leak unless you're on the roof.
Torque the bolts and use some blue LOCTITE on the bolts. Use the neutral alignment pin when removing the oem shifter and installing the KIRBAN shifter.
Remove the pin after the KIRBAN is installed or the gasket won't be your biggest concern.

I don't know why anyone would use RTV in this application. Obviously, the gasket is not there for sealing purposes. The gasket is just to absorb any irregularities between the base and the shifter mounting plate. I would use a thin gasket cut out of any gasket material if you do not have one.
The factory gasket is a paper-thin rubber material. The gaskets that come with the Hurst shifter is about 1/32" cardboard like material.

The RTV will "absorb any irregularites between the base and the shifter mounting plate" as well...maybe better. If an owner elects to make their own gasket, that's another option.
Obviously, when someone buys a used shifter from someone else, the chances of receiving the gasket are minimal. Chances are the oem gasket will be damaged during the R&R.
