I have a 2002 Z06 that I recently bought with 3,000 miles on it. Obviously it spent most of the time just sitting with the previous owner. He replaced the original battery with an Optima Redtop, and still had the original battery which he gave me.
I have an issue with the DIC resetting on a cold start. From what I can gather, I believe this is due to the voltage dropping too low during cranking. If I turn to the key to accessory before starting, everything is still normal on the DIC. After cranking though it defaults back to Corvette by Chevrolet and then the odometer. Trip meters and oil life are still fine. The average mpg and fuel range are reset though and the HUD goes back to the oil pressure setting.
It does not appear to have any problem cranking the engine. It starts right up and the starter does not sound slow. While the car is running the battery voltage is always around 14.1 or 14.3. The DIC also never resets on a warm start.
Is this something I should even really be concerned about? Are there other problems that could be experienced if it is dropping below a voltage threshold on a cold start? Even though the battery is charging fine while running, is it on it's way out and should I replace it now to avoid being stranded? This car is my daily driver.
I had the same problem and once I replaced the battery everything went back to normal. Never had the first problem cranking, just the resetting of the DIC. Get rid of that red top. I went to Auto Zone and got their best; around $80.
I had intermittent problems of the fuel memory reseting.
It would periodically do it first start of the morning and be OK,and if
I let the car sit for a few days it would do it again. Never had cranking
issues. This was probably over a 3mnths time
Shortly after with no signs of really needing to load test the battery I did
one and it just barely fell out of the range.
Replaced the battery and I have not had any problems with my Fuel
memory resetting
IMO that is the first sign of a battery problem when you notice your
fuel memory not keeping
Its the battery See if the Red top has any of the 3yr warranty remaining and if so get a new one. Ive see many a marginal battery start a C5 but cause all sorts of weird electrical problems. During cold start, the battery is dropping to the mysterious threshold where the IPC shuts down for a millisecond and then comes back to life as voltage comes back in range.
If you pull up the DTCs do you see any U series DTCs on the IPC module??
How do you disable the security on the stock radio? I read that it can lock up if you don't disable it before changing the battery.
Don't know about the battery, but the way to tell if the security code is set is to look at the front of the radio. With the car OFF there is a LED next to the VOLUME dial ... if that is blinking then a security code has been entered and the radio will "locK' when the battery is disconnected. With the car OFF, if the LED is not lit, then no security code has been entered.
See "Theftlock" in your owner's manual for information on how to set and delete the code.

I did the same thing. You don't "need" an AGM battery. As long as you check your terminals when you are checking everything else you'll be fine. Just put an acid mat underneath the battery for insurance.

If your previous owner activated it and did not give you a code,
you can not deactivate it, so if it LOC appears you need to folow this.
Procedure:
01. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
02. Hold down the Radio Presets 2 and 3 buttons for six seconds
03. The radio display changes from LOC to a three-digit number. Write this number down. Don’t take forever, fifteen seconds max before the next step.
04. Press the AM/FM button
05. The radio display changes to another three-digit number. Write this number to the right of the first one.
06. You now have a six-digit number, the first three digits are from STEP 03 and the last three digits are form STEP 05.
07. Call 1-800-537-5140
08. Press 1, then # (pound). You’ll hear “Invalid Code, try again”
09. Press 139010, then # (pound). You will be asked to enter your four or six digit code followed by * (start)
10. Enter the number from STEP 6, then * (star)
11. Listen to the four-digit number and write it down. It will be repeated twice.
12. Turn the ignition ON (The radio displays LOC)
13. Use the MN and HR buttons to enter the code from STEP 11
14. Press the AM/FM button. The radio display changes to SEC Your radio is now “un-locked” and usable. The Theft-Deterrent feature is STILL active! If you want to disable it, use the instruction on page 3-27 in your Y2K Owner’s manual. Use the code from STEP 11 instead of your personal code.

Thanks for the answers on the radio. The funny thing is, I read the entire owners manual...except for the section on the radio. I skipped right past that. I guess I prefer the sound of the Z06 exhaust instead
