Are there any differences between torque tubes for the different C5 model years ? This question is related to Auto C5s.
yes. The Z06 - which got a beefier TT in 2001. By 2002 all C5's got the better TT. I've seen some people mention that maybe all 2001's (coupe/vert/z06/6-speed/auto) got it as well.
Both will bolt right up to any year C5... but internally there is some difference.
Thanks Guys. My friends' '00 just experienced a failure. The "Stealership" requested $2990 in parts only. I just did a search on Gene's GM Part House and found out it is worth much less. I hate it when they try to charge us the sky for parts just because of our location. So I better be ordering the 02+ ones. Price is about $500 more too than the regular '00. Strange though , why do they still carry the old ones ? Old stock maybe ?

The price the quoted has nothing to do with "location". It's called "list price" and it's what all (or most) dealers charge to the retail public. Very common and very normal.
The two GM forum supporting vendors sell at or very close to "dealer price". That's the price dealerships charge their best customers who have repair shops, etc and who do a lot of business with them.
Either call Gene directly or Fichtner Chev @ call 1-800-234-5284 and talk to Bob. Be sure to specify the fact that your are not only a forum member but you are also working on an A4 since, as Mike pointed out there are differences between the MM6 version. Either forum vendor can steer you right and save you a lot of money (on new GM) parts.
HTH
BTW, after getting the information I needed, I chose to go the used route and found an excellent price on a later (i.e. stronger version) MM6 tube assembly at a Corvette (only) salvage business in Missouri. After a check on the internals such as bearings and couplers, it's now in my car.
