Default Help solve my parking brake rattle

Hi,

I have an 02 z06 that is having a loud rattle/drone in idle with the parking brake off or slightly engaged. It goes away if I engage the parking brake fully. It comes back but less intense if I engage and disengage the parking brake. It also starts to go away above 1.5k rpm. I haven't had any recent maintenance on the brakes. I've tried unsuccessfully to pinpoint the sound from outside. The sound seems to come from the rear around the tires or mufflers but it's too soft to pinpoint over the exhaust sound. I have tried having someone hold the mufflers and body panels that seemed to be loose which didn't help.

I did have a shop look at the rear including the mufflers and clearances and they adjust the muffler but that didn't fix the rattle. I have long tubes and an x-pipe with stock ti exhaust, they don't seem to be rubbing anywhere.

I did a search on here today and the only thing I found was an '83 where the parking brake pins might not be set right and rattle against the rotor. Thanks for any ideas or help.

Sounds like maybe a cable vibrating against something.

I know this thread is 5 years old, but I am having this identical problem. I have a buzzing noise coming from the rear of the car that goes away completely if you engage the parking brake just a few inches or so.

I'm in the process of moving and haven't been able to crawl under the car to investigate. Thought I'd bump this thread to see if any of you have any pointers on where to look. Thanks.

Take the rear rotors off and look.
