I was getting ready to clean the MAF when it dawned upon me, why not mod the airbox cover? So while the Dremmel is charging I searched the forum for threads on the subject. The zip tie mod was the closest I got to what I want to do but is about a foot too far.
My thought is to mod the cover only and a question arose after checking out a pic from a vendors site:
If you cut the cover it will not hurt anything and you shouldn't get any codes. You do however need to install some kind of HOOD SEAL!
The water from the hood will drip into the filter and it will get wet. I live in CT and mine got wet and FROZE!
Couldn't figure out why it didn't have any top end!
The hood seal will prevent that! If you install the same type of seal that is on the fenders /hood, it looks very nice and is easy to keep clean. The C6's went that route! It looks nice.
Thanks very much for the info. BTW, I have a brand new hood seal I purchased a few years back that I never installed! I knew I was going to need that thing.
Yep. I read these while I was searching out airbox mods today. I pretty much want to stay with the cover only at this point. Thanks again though!
My thinking was the same as yours. I tried the SLP "Blackwing" and got intermittent lean bank codes. I didn't have time for a 300 mile round trip and $500 dyno tune to correct the problem...probably related to the 5,200 ft altitude here.
I elected to modify my oem Z16 intake and use a drop in K&N filter on mine. It took a couple of hours, cost me nothing, produces no codes and looks better.
...and yes, I know that I have one of the very rare 110V powered intakes systems...
