Default Powerbond Crank Pulley Install

Crank Pulley Install

Car: ’02 Z06

Parts: Powerbond Crank Pulley+Acc belt
Gates AC belt
Gates AC tensioner
AC Delco AC idler pulley
Gates Accessory belt tensioner
ARP Crank Pulley bolt

Total Install duration: 5 hours

I followed the C5 heads/cam swap guide here: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=1

I thought I’d offer some advice for the install:

I took out the rack from the driver’s side instead. I still had to loosen the ABS controller mounting bracket. It was pretty easy to remove and re-install.

For the sway bar end link and tie rod end, you can use either a T-40 torx bit or a 6mm allen wrench.

I didn’t have to remove the power steering pump/pulley.

I didn’t have to remove the radiator.

I didn’t have to remove the alternator.

I didn’t have to remove the throttle body.

I had to spray some WD-40 between the pulley and the crank to be able to pull it out.

I used air tools which sped up the install.

Thanks to all who helped answer my questions in my earlier threads.

Yes, throw the new balancer in the oven at 225 degrees for about a half hour, it will slide on MUCH easier! A crank pinning kit isn't a half bad idea either. However, if you are going to go through all of the hassle to get a balancer on or off you might as well stab a new cam in there too, since you already have the worst part done.

do you think that will affect the balancer material at all?

Not at all. 225 isn't anything, in fact I would be willing to bet it gets close to that temp when the engine has been running for awhile. You gotta figure how hot other components get under the hood.
