I Have A 2004 C5 Coupe (non Z06) With A Few Mods. I Installed A Borla Cat Back Exhaust System, Tuned The Engine With A Hypertech Power Programmer, And Installed Cross Drilled And Slotted Brake Rotors. I Am Extremely Happy With All Of These Upgrades And Have Been Using Them For Months With No Problems Of Any Kind. Recently I Installed A Vararam Intake System And Was Happy With The Outcome At First. After A Couple Of Days My Car Started Surging When Coming To A Stop After Driving On The Freeway For 30 Minutes Or So. Twice My Car Actually Stalled But Restarted With No Problems. I've Been Using The Vararam For About A Week And The Check Engine Light Has Never Come On. (by The Way It Has An Automatic Transmission). Other Than The Surging At Times And Stalling Problem I Really Like The Vararam And Want To Keep It. Just Was Wondering If Anyone Has Had The Same Symptoms With The Vararam System. Thanks!
I am not sure what filter system the unit uses. But for what it is worth, I have had oil based filters that cause the MAF to get a coating of oil on the wire elemments. I spray with mass airflow sensor cleaner, may solve your issue.
Thanks for your input on this matter. The MAF sensor is stock and unmodified. The screen is still intact with no oil residue present at this time. I lightly oiled the reusable filter that came with the Vararam with WD-40. The odd thing is it will run fine around town, I only notice any problems after driving at high speeds for a while. I will double check for any air leaks in the intake system today.

The instructions that came with the vararam kit said to use WD-40 or a product like K&N air filter oil. They stressed do not over oil the filter because it will contaminate the MAF sensor. I have had the intake system on for only a short time and have not contacted vararam on this matter yet. I am a master diagnostic technician (MDT) at toyota and have been working on cars for 10+ years. I guess its a pride thing. Now that I know its not a common problem with the vararam i will be calling them soon. Thanks
Dude, call the number you were given. Why rattle you brain with this if they may already have an swer to the issue? They have excellent customer/tech service and that way you can enjoy your ride.
