Default Oil Consumption

I know some of the 2001 ZO6 engines had Oil Consumption issues, did the regular C5's in 2001 suffer from this too?

What makes you think you're consuming oil .... how much are you "losing" (example: a quart every 5,000 miles) ?????

Your warranty was 3 years or 36,000 miles ..... whichever came FIRST .... you can forget ANY chance of a warranty claim on a 2001 ......

2001 models did have a problem with the oil slipping by the rings. I would say on average many burn a quart every 4-5K miles. I would fill it up again and check back after 1000 miles. The engine takes 6.5 quarts, on many of our cars that makes you look 1/2 quart low.

No expert here but this is what I understand on the oil consumption issue. Mainly related to the early 01 and related to driving at higher RPMs, > 3000 rpm. I have an early 01 with Auto transmission and I don't have what I consider a oil burning issue. It seems I add a quart around 5,000 miles after an oil change.

I also put in 7 qts at oil change where the oil mark on the dipstick is to the top rather than the middle.

My oil level is near the middle of the marks on the dip-stick.

At the end of an oil change (6.5 quarts), the "normal level" is just where yours is now ... in the middle of the hash marks.

Did you actually check it and see if it was at the top of the hash narks when you bought it, or are you just assuming that ?

The top of the hash marks is FULL, the bottom is DOWN 1 QUART ....

So, even if the oil was FULL when you bought the car, you have used a 1/2 quart ... NOT a quart.

That means that, worst case, you are using a quart in about 1,600 miles, which is WELL WITHIN normal engine usage.

You DO NOT have an "oil burner" ... you have a Corvette ... go out and it ......

Calibrate the dip stick. Pour 6.5 quarts and retest. Also monitor your driving 'style' and read these postshttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...t=dieseldave56http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1988537

The check the PVC baffle and get a catch can.http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_c5_corner.htmhttp://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...ghlight=dave68http://www.eliteengineeringusa.com/Catch_Can.htmlhttp://www.customcorvetteaccessories...lcatchcan.html

I am almost 100% positive it was full. However I may have doubt in my mind now since you mentioned it.

I will keep an eye on it now and will follow other suggestions people have mentioned in other posts too.

This forum ROCKS!
