I have a 2000 with just over 53k. Recently, I have been hearing noises in the front when I go over bumps / or acceleration deceleration. I know I do not have struts but the sound is similar to that I have heard on cars with struts on a cold morning. Can anyone offer suggestions before I panic and have GM charge me though the nose for a front end rebuild.
It got much worse after a while and I could not figure out what it was. Heck I had re-done the suspension with new shock, springs, ends you name it. The mechanic I took it for a test drive to check the suspension. When he came back he checked that everything was torqued down to specs. He found that the subframe was not, he took it apart and re-mounted with new bolts and torqued it back to specs. No issues after that with any weird sounds.
I tried lubricating the bushings once with silicone grease as the noise was due to them being worn. That didn't work for me and only made it worse. I bought new ones and replaced them, all was fine once again. I'm now on my 3rd set since the car was new.
Mine was the rear sway bar. I put poly bushing with the lube from the kit and it took care of it. Could be many different things. Loose bolts or lack of lube on A arms, shocks, subframe, swaybar mounts, sway bar endlinks, tie rod (not too likly the tie rods IMO) etc.
Process of elimination. Do one thing at a time and then the next.
