I hace recently added several aftermarket parts to my 1999 Corvette with the intent to add horsepower, ironicaly the opposite has happened.
I installed a K&N air filter, Breathless vortex air duct, highflow throttle body and a Corsa Indy exhaust system. Each time I start the car and begine to drive I am faced with a warning light saying "Reduced Engine Power" and the car begines to act as if someone had just pushed a sock into the air intake or shut the flow of gas off to the engine. If I turn the car off and then back on the problem resolves itself for a few moments but then happens again. My local dealer has been no help, saying only the problem might be somewhere in the MAF or the Throttle body. I am woundering if the computer needs to be recalibrated to acount for the new amount of airflow being takin in and put out. Basicaly I am lost and in need of help. There are no Corvette specialty shops close to where I live. Each day I look at this awsome red convertible Corvette sitting in my garage going to wast. I have spent almost $10,000. dollers in upgrades from the parts already mentioned to chrome engine components and wheels, steal braided hoses, drilled and slotted rotors, ZO6 calipers and custome paint, not to mention headers and a short throw shifter in route.
Does anyone out there in Corvette land have a solution? My e-mail address is RMNewJ@aol.com
Any suggestions would be greatly appretiated. Happy Holidays.
Most of your mods seem pretty straight forward. I can't believe the dealer wasn't more help. What did he do? Did he run diagnostics? My first guess would be to make sure there are not air leaks around the ducting downstream from the MAF. Second is make sure wiring is okay - anything you disconnected. Make sure eveything is plugged together, and no wires got grounded or shorted out somewhere along the way.
I don't have experience with the throttle body, hopefully others with experience can give you pointers on that part of the install. Good luck, and when you find the problem, please post on this thread so we can all learn from it.
Reduced power indicates a fault with the drive by wire (no accelerator cable)...Reinstall your old throttle body and see what happens. Also recheck the wiring connectors to it...If that does not correct it,you have a possible faulty with the accelerator pedal sensors or TAC module which are somewhat common causes of reduced power messages.
3 Weeks ago I had mine flatbedded to good 'ol chevy to have the "R.E.P." code resolved... They replaced the faulty throttle body and now it work's fine.
I didn't see you mention reading any error codes. The dealer might have. I have had problems with both ends of the fly-by-wire. First the pedal then the throttle body end. Reduced engine power is the key. I got a P1518 code first time and I don't remember what code I got the second time. I just drove it to the dealer and he fixed it.
