Default oil sending unit

This is a modification of my previous thread, but for clarification, is the Standard PS308 the best oil sending unit to go back with? I don't really want to bother with the relocation if I can help it, but I don't want to buy the factory junk
Thanks

Well, I installed the newer OEM junk when I did my last H/C install and so far its been fine. I kept my OEM unit as a backup. I did notice the original unit was made entirely out of brass and in Canada whereas the new units are aluminum and made in Mexico.

I'd try the OEM and if it fails, do the relocate kit. That's my plan anyway.

I went with the relocation route and have not regretted it. I actually had the Buick sensor go bad right after installation. The good news is less than 5 minutes to replace. Based on the history of stock units I think the relocation will pay benefits if you are going to keep the car for any period of time. It is really not much more effort than replacing the sensor and some additional cost for parts.

My stock unit failed in November 06 with 87000 miles. I read all of the posts and purchased the Standard PS-308 from Rockauto because it was supposed to be brass. Well guess what? All of the senders are now aluminum, and made in Mexico. I did the old remove the intake to replace, followed all of the torque recommendations, and it lasted about a month. I sent it back under warranty and purchased a new Delco unit from the dealer, also aluminum and made in Mexico. This time I cut the hole in the cowl, but only torqued it to 7 lbs instead of 15. 18 months and 24000 miles later, still working with no leaks.

I wonder if the torque is indeed the factor in the failures. It is for my wife"s car which has 70,000+ miles with no previous failure. I had serched the post and found several guys recommending the standard brand unit. Many had said that the AC Delco unit had not lasted AT ALL, so that was the direction I planned to go. Every parts store claims theirs will work great, but I trust the info her a LOT more
