Valve in heater core line?
OK, so I'm driving my 97 Vette and suddenly I get a "Low Coolant" warning and the temp starts to skyrocket. As I pull over I start to see steam coming from under the hood. When I open up the hood, there is coolant all over the passenger side of the engine compartment. After poking around, I notice that down on the front of the motor is a metal block with 3 hoses. One is a large radiator hose, and two are small coolant hoses that appear to link to metal "hoses" near the firewall. One of the small hoses has a valve of some sort spliced in the middle. The valve is snapped and spewing coolant. I looked at the valve and it has an arrow indicating direction. However, when I remove it and look through it, it seems to be fairly hollow and will allow coolant to flow in either direction. I went to Kragen and bought a simply hose2hose connector and everything seems to be fine.
WHAT IS THAT VALVE? And is it supposed to restrict flow direction? Should I buy the correct one from GM?
HELP!!

Oh yeah, there are 3 lines of numbers on it. two are obscured, so I don't know what they say. However, the one remaining shows 10157988. When I look up the part on a GM parts sight, it says...
Hvac - Heater - Control valve Control valve, corvette 1992 - 1996
My engine is disassembled down to the block so I have a nice CLEAR view of the entire cooling an heating system. There aint none of those valves any where on my 02 ZO6.
Here is an end view showing that there is no flow restrictor inside. Maybe there WAS at one time?
That is a restrictor that is put in the hose going into the heater core to slow the coolant flow going into the core, if that was'nt in the hose the coolant would make a noise inside the car. With that restrictor in there you won't hear any flow going through the heater core.

Right where the red arrow is pointing (Valve use to be there. Now it's just a hose joiner). This is a shot from above. The valve sits down between the overflow tank and the oil fill hole.

That kinda makes sense, becuase while this will not stop flow, it is smaller inside than the original hose's inside diameter. The arrow on the side really threw me for a loop. It looks like it would be a one-way valve, but there is nothing to restrict flow DIRECTION.
