If stock, depends. It should be relatively quiet with maybe a little noise. Sometimes the injectors will tick. If it has a noisy valve train and is stock, might want to check other cars.
im lookin at a z06 with ls6,, has valvetrain noise at idle is this normal
That's a REALLY tough question to answer .... what some might call valvetrain "noise", others might call normal.
The Z06 has very little sound insulation, so you will hear noises from the engine and the drivetrain that, if you are used to most other cars, will sound scary. Yet they are probably perfectly normal.
I would recommend you have a mechanic who knows the Corvette inspect the car before you buy it. The money you spend on an inspection may save you thousands in repairs if there are problems with the engine, clutch, transmission, or differential ..... you are about to pay a lot of money .... buy yourself some "insurance" .... just because someone on the forum says "that's normal" or "that's not right" without ever actually seeing/hearing the car is not a good basis for a buy/no buy decision.

I give the OP credit for being able to discern valve clatter from the normal mechanical noises that normally emanate from the gen III engines.
He has been a member here since 2004 and in his title described VALVETRAIN CLATTER.
He currently drives an LS1.
No - I cannot diagnose valve problems via internet postings, but I can say that anything that I would describe as CLATTER coming from a LS6 is not normal.
i never had valvetrain issue with my Ls1.. I called a local tuner 21st century musclecars and they said its normao on the ls6.. So did my Huffines Chevrolet Serviceman. Its definately not piston slap which is common on the ls-1.. Seems like I'm getting mixed answers here.. I just don't want to have any regrets if i buy the car.. Thanks again

Nothing mixed about what BlackZ06 suggested. Get the car to a qualified corvette mechanic, and put your concerns at rest. If the seller is not agreeable to letting you get the car checked out, I would move on...
Fair enough...then why is he soliciting forum members if he is capable of discerning the noise himself?
Hi lucky -
He is able to discern something on the LS6 that seems abnormal to him, from his experience with an LS1. He is asking people who have experience with an LS6 if they notice it and is it normal.
Since I have both an LS1 and an LS6, I submit that I do not hear significant valve train noise from the LS6 as compared to my LS1.
I apologize if I somehow make people uncomfortable with my replies.

Seems totally subjective to me. My feeling is, if you have to ask, then you don't know. If it is even questionable, then get the car to a mech who can evaluate said noise. Simple as that.
I have no idea how your replies make people feel uncomfortable.....
thanks for the input guys.. The owner is taking it to a local tuner 21st century muscle cars.. These guys specialize in the Gen 3 Ls1/ls6 based cars.. They will go over the car with a fine tooth comb. including a compression/leak down test. The owner did tell me that some clater is normal on these engines
