I'm getting ready to swap out my clutch on my 2000 conv. with my mods(h/c,headers,etc.)putting down 385 rwhp, I've was going to buy gm ls7 assy. but ran across a ls6 setup for about 1/2 the price
I would like some input for which way I need to go, I'm not planning for any more hp in the future and I want this setup to last a while, but I do enjoy driving my car like a sports car.
I personally wouldn't go with either of those clutches. My buddy is running a Mccleod twin disc on his TA and he's going 10.50's with 1.4x 60fts, spraying 100shot out of the hole.
with my old vette 00 frc-w/ a doug rippie top end package- i installed (or i should say steve dotton installed) a complete ls7 set up. it worked perfect on a car making 395 rwhp... the guy i sold it to, tracked the car (road raced) for a full season- no issues no problems. he than sold the car and the new owner also is racing the car. ls7 clutch is holding up no problems... just my.02

The McLeod twin disk is great for high power cars...but it's got that stop or go engagement, far from ideal for a street car.
For the power level you are at, LS6 clutch hands down. It will drive like stock. Too many people have problems with the LS7 clutch... If you plan on doing major mods thought it wont hold.
I think ls7 all the way. holds more than ls6 why would you want to have to upgrade later? with future mods? I love my ls7 however I did use a fidanza alum flywheel to lighten up the set up because it weighs more than the ls6. over all I lost 7lbs over my stock ls1 clutch. I hear people mentioning that others have had problems with the ls7 but in the second person. I also did a ram adjustable master cylinder and remote bleeder<--must. Oh and I had the whole assembly race balanced for 15,000 rpm so she rides smooth.
I installed an LS-7 clutch in a buddies 2001 Z06, the car is lightly modded with heads/cam, Fast intake, etc. and he road races a lot!!!
The clutch has worked out well for him, he's had it for almost 2 years now.
