IMy check engine light has just come on. It is an '02. I went to Autozone and they scanned it and came up with P1416 code. Does anyone know what that is or how serious it is?
P1416 is for Bank2 - the passenger side of the engine.
The AIR pump turns on when the engine is cold, adding air into the exhaust to loweer exhaust emmisions. Once the engine warms up, the AIR system is turned off.
However, the PCM tests the system occasionally, by turning on the AIR pump and using the Heated O2 sensors to ensure that air is being added to the exhaust. Your PCM is seeing air being added to the left bank, but not the right.
Many people have fixed this problem by blasting some WD40 into the checkvalves, and exercising the check valves with compressed air. Unfortunately the passenger side check valve is located behind the intake manifold, so you'll have to remove that to get to the valve. That's why, if you can just spray in WD40 from the left side, hopefully it will fix the problem.
Blast it a couple of times and it may take a few days for it to fully work. But, it does work. Removing the AIR tube to the passengers side is a pretty big job for what it is...
