Can anyone tell me where the low coolant sensor is located in my 2000 Corvette? Its not located in the bottom of the surge tank. My lite comes on even though the tank/rad is full.Thnks Al
The surge tanks with level sensors only came on 97 through 99 Model Year cars. Starting in 2000 Chevy switched to a surge tank with no sensor. Yours and my cars don't monitor the coolant level.
What light is coming on ????? On the cars with the sensor they get a LOW COOLANT message on the DIC ..... what light ?????
Yes and if you have a 97-99 and you replace the coolant surge tank with one from an 00-04 the sensor will fit, but it is sealed off. So it will look like you put everything back together correctly, but Low Coolant messages on the DIC will appear. You must get a 97-99 surge tank with a true coolant sensor hole and float.
(Feel free to ask me how I know this)
But like the previous poster said, if you truly have a 2000 corvette then you have no sensor or message. If you are getting coolant temp low, then your coolant temp sensor has gone bad and its on the front of the driver's side head, below/behind the alternator and PS pump.
My surge tank has no fitting for a sensor and my harness has no connector to plug into it. The dash lite says low coolant level not coolant temp. Al

Al,
I'm sorry, but there is no LIGHT on the C5 dashboard marked "LOW COOLANT LEVEL". It's not shown in the Service Manual ... nor is it shown in the Owner's Manual .....
Please look in the Owner's Manual and tell us what "light" you are seeing .... here's an electronic copy .... just point out the page number that shows the lamp .....https://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2cont...00corvette.pdf
If it helps the instrument panel display starts at page 2-72 .....
I'm sorry, but you are mis-reading something on your dashboard ...... the LOW COOLANT message isn't a lamp, it is a DIC message .... and your car doesn't have the hardware for this message .... so PLEASE look again and report exactly what is "lit" on your dashboard.
Splice Pack 201 (SP201) which is attached to G201. It appears from the wiring schematic that to "disable" the sensor, GM just shorted the wiring to ground .... so the PCM thinks the coolant is full all the time. I suspect your wire is failing to ground intermittently, and when the PCM sees the 12 volts drop, it turns on the warning.
See Bill Curlee's excellent sticky at the top of this forum on electrical issues .... good information there about cleaning grounds, splice packs, etc., including diagrams of where the grounds are located.
Thanks everyone for the tips. I found the wire in the fuse box on the pass. side engine comp.and disconnected it.The message does not appear anymore. Thanks again Al
