Guys I have a Coupe M6 with I'd say 365-370 rear wheel hp and I am having major issues hooking up on drag racing and even just driving hard. I have the run flats still sadly so I know thats an issue. I'm leaving at about 2400rpm's on the drags with traction control off (i tried leaving at 4,000 with it on but my pedal went dead). Anyway I have about a grand to spend and I am looking for the best modifications to do to improve the hook up. I know the tires need to go but I want to try to get another 5k or so out of them cause they have some tread left. Thanks guys I appreciate all help.
Your trying to drag race w/ a dead horse under you! You know exactly what you need to buy. Keep the rear wheels & tires. Buy a different set of rear wheels & tires to do your drag racing with and get the extra 5,000 miles out of the old tires on the old wheels. Give your car a chance to put that H.P. to the ground! Good luck w/ your mods.
ok GSD3's it is...you think sway bars would help?..I really want to get them to stiffen the car up.
I also have the GSD3's and they do hook up well but why would you do that? Get the drag radials like suggested above and save your street tires. Seems a shame to beat up a good set of street tires. It only takes about 20 mins to change a set of mounted wheels/tires.

Sway bars wont help your straight line acceleration, it really makes cornering nice though. Some guys even remove the front sway bar for drag racing. Not a good idea on a street car though. You could look into your choice of shocks to help with weight transfer.
Ditching the runflats will certainly help your situation. You can certainly run DRs on the street, just be careful when it is wet out. You'll have to replace them more often too, but you won't have problems with traction.
If you focus too much on straight line acceleration, you'll give up some handling which the corvette is known for. IMO, better tires seem like your best solution.
A good compromise might be the Nitto 555R2's on the front and rear. My friends '99 with an A&A kit, headers, cam makes 620rwhp and hooks better than my heads/cam car with the BFG KD's. They aren't drag radials by any means, but he hooks well at the strip and they handle great. I have a set of R2's on order.
Fine, then live with traction problems at the strip. It's not rocket science.....
Sadly; that's the reality though.
It's the same with those going with more radical rear gearing (4.10's) and/or high stall converters - but not completing the mod by running with drag radials... or tubbing and running with w-i-d-e-r- drag radials.
with all this power we have on tap; usuable traction will either win... or lack-of will lose the dragrace.
Now, if your goals are to just smoke the tires on demand; then you can skip a lot of these additional mods
Yeah I am buying tires I know mine suck *****. Anyway I was just out and was curious about a 2nd gear launch at 2500 no good too weak. I did however try 1st gear at 1600 and wow did I hook up fairly well and the car was controllable. So till I get new tires 1600 is my new favorite number.
