Default Oil life status trouble

Hey guys, I changed my oil a couple days ago and when I went to reset my oil moniter gauge, it read OIL LIFE _ _ _%. This has happened before and after a few seconds of driving it sets to 100%, but today after a couple of minutes of driving it finally reset back to 46% (Only has 2000 miles since the last change but it's been sitting for 6 months through the winter). I tried it again towards the end of the trip and yet again, back to 46%. Any suggestions? TIA

Try resetting the oil life monitor by turning the key to "ON'" engine NOT running, fully depress the gas pedal three times - all within five seconds.

You state that you changed the oil a couple of days ago and then state that it has 2000 miles on the oil after sitting six months? I'm confused, but then I confuse easily sometimes.

Thanks, I'll go try this right now...

I did change the oil a couple of days ago AFTER it had been sitting for 6 months with 2000 miles since the last change. Didn't want any flames for changing the oil with the status at only 46%...

Thanks again

You think 46% is bad, I just changed mine today since last August and was reading 90%. Just makes me feel better.

Thanks timemender, that did the trick, guess I forgot how to reset it since all I do in my GMC Envoy is hit the reset button for 3 seconds.

Spongevette, that's impressive, did you push your car everywhere you went?

Rob , you should be able to reset using your reset button.. you must have done something wrong..turn key on dont start, go to oil life monitor, hold reset until it reads 100%.

I have never had to pump the pedal to reset oil life.
