rattle in dash HELP

rattle in dash HELP
I have a 1999 coupe and have had the dash out twice and cant fix the rattle.It sounds like its coming from the heads up display box.I removed the HUD box shook it and no rattle.I tie strapped every thing under the dash and still an a hard bump it rattles.I also snugged up on the rear hood rubber stoppers and still a rattle.Has anyone else had this rattle?HELP!!!!Thanks Dan

I have a 'dash area' rattle. not so much with bumps, but mostly when taking off in 1st at a resonating RPM. If you find the problem let me know, I just ignore my rattle for now but wouldn't mind eliminating it.

When you pulled the HUD, were the pivot bushings in place and okay? How is the HUD alignment on the windshield? When the pivot bushings go bad, or fall out, it can cause a rattle when you hit a bump, and the display sometimes won't adj far enough to see it on the windshield. Other than that all I can say is, rattles are a BYOTCH to find. Good luck!

I had a rattle that sounded as if it was in the HUD area and it really was the steering wheel horn/air bag center and one loose screw. It drove me nuts. It must have transmitted the sound into the dash. Then one day I just happened to hear it after I had programmed myself to ignore it for 6 months. I moved my thumb to the wheel center and I happened to notice it stopped. Voila easy fix.

it would be interesting to put a 99 coupe (like mine!!) on the road simulator at bowling green. That thing is so cool... I would like to use it for an hour or so and track down one or two noises I have.

I have more squeeks then I care to tackle with mine. Ever time I think I have one solved two more show up. Great car but it souns like the whole car is going to fall apart when I go over railroad tracks or a semi bumpy road.

I had a rattle sounded like it was in the dash, drove me crazy for months, and i looked everywhere, finally found, at the back of the engine right at the firewall, you'll see the PCV Hose that goes around the back of the engine, bout midway there is a metal clamp that holds a wire harness in place, this had came loose off the pcv hose and was scrapping/tapping the fiberglass right under the windshield wipers, and transmitting through the dash....
