Default Fuel leak question

I have had my 02 coupe parked in the garage since Sunday and have been noticing a slight fuel smell. I filled the car up on Sunday afternoon and then parked it in the garage. I slid under the rear of the car and I dont see any puddles/dripping fuel, but my mufflers appear wet on both sides. I am not sure if I overfilled the car or not, the gas pump stopped and I hit the handle again to make sure it was full and it stopped quickly. Is there an evap/charcoal canister on the C5 that could be flooded with fuel and leaking, or is there a part of the fuel system that is above the mufflers?

Thanks for any help
Chris

What part of the mufflers are wet? Did you smell the "wet"?

if so what did it smell like?

Gasoline evaporates quickly, so if it's a small leak you may not see it. The evaporated gas is what you smell anyway.

It's also possible that its not leaking at all, the smell could be your gas cap not sealing.

Many times the fuel filter (which is above the exhaust - and may run down it to the muffler - not sure) will leak when it goes bad.

Thanks for the reply. The part of the mufflers that is wet is the top and forward front of the mufflers that faces the differential. I wiped the wet spot off and smelled it, but it really didnt smell like anything. I havent replaced the fuel filter in the car. I am going to try and get the car up in the air to get a better look at it and find out what is going on.

If the car has a fuel leak, be sure your garage does not have any ignition sources such as a water heater ..... If it does I'd park the car outside until you fix the leak.

The evap/charcoal canister is on the right side rear tucked up in the wheel well. I smell fuel sometimes when I fill up completely and I believe it is caused by a full canister as it only smells in the area of the right rear wheel well. It never leaks any fuel though and the smell goes away in a few hours.
