Default Small comfort mod, big result

Just thought I'd add this. It is my drivers door with custom pad. Pad is made out of a keyboard gelpad cut in half. The kind that usually goes under your wrists. Just a little glue to hold it down. Very comfortable gel pad for every drive.

If it didn't look like a keyboard pad cut in half stuck to the interior, I would definitely do it.

My elbow leaves an indent there after long trips.

Default Hmmm...

This is a cool mod .

Some of those gel pads have goo in them. Did yours not have any gooey gel in it when you cut it in half?

I was about to ask the samething, If I were to do that with the Texas summer heat I would have a gooey mess all over my door and down into my carpet from that stuff melting and oozing out.

I worried about the same thing but went ahead and cut it in half. No ooze. It seems to be a firm gell type substance in the one I had anyway. Got it from Best Buy. I also considered using one from a wrist pad for a mouse. Rounded half circle, cut it to fit right where your elbow rests.

By the way as in most pics it looks better in person. It is as black as the door panel. I don't even notice looking at it when I get in but my elbow feels better on the gel pad (Gel pad designed specifically for the purpose of easing discomfort of bones on a hard surface.)

Great mod!! Do you think it might melt in the heat of the summer? Maybe you can find a way to re-seal the cut edge.

No it won't melt. It already has been in the enclosed car for a season. It was one of my first mods after having my elbow on the hard plastic for a while. No need to re-seal it either. It just cut in half and there was no "wet" edge. Just gel like stuff but not movable. (does not ooze out the end when mashed on) Note: The one I got was fine but I think there may be some that might have a movable gel inside, don't know about all.

Default Next step...

Now the next step is identifying which brands have the goo inside and which ones don't . Minitech, do you remember the brand you used?

I don't remember the brand but got it at Best Buy. I think there is a conception that these things have a liquid inside but they probably have a solid that is a gel form. Like the ones for shoe inserts; they are not liquid. Go ahead and buy what you think would fit and look the best and cut it. If it leaks can return it "He this thing leaked!"
