Default blue oil pump o ring

Has anyone used the blue o ring? I'm replacing the oil pump on my 98 vette ls1 with the ls2 unit. The ls2 unit arrived with a blue o ring (the old one was gray (maybe brown). The blue o ring is noticably larger in diameter than the old o-ring. Using the blue o ring the tube doesn't seat into the pump as easily as it does with the old o ring. In fact it doesn't really seat at all with out the bolt in there to hold it flush. Has anybody run into this? Should I use the old o ring? Will there be a problem using the old o ring with the new ls2 oil pump?

Does anybody know if the LS2 pump pickup tube mounting specs are different than the LS1? I'm wondering if this might be a case of poor quality control (here use this blue oring...should work). The blue o-ring doesn't want to seat easily in the pump. If I place it into the oil pump with the pump out of the car it wants to pop out whereas the old one does not? Has anybody used this blue o ring?

Does anybody know if its safe to use the original 98 LS1 gray(might be brown) o-ring with the LS2 pump? I do not like the way the blue o ring that cam with it seats. The ramifications of a wrong decision here are HUGE as I risk engine damage and many hours of work if it fails to generate oil pressure either because the o-ring is too small (the original ls1 o - ring) or the pick up tube does not seat correctly (with the new blue o ring). Somebody with experience with this please help!!!!

Will there be any issues with using the 98 ls1 gray/brown o-ring with the ls2 oil pump? Has anybody done this?

The thicker o-ring was done in order to prevent pinching the o-ring when installing the oil pickup tube. If that o-ring gets pinched, you'll have low oil pressure problems.

I installed a QTP oil pump when I did heads/cam recently. The pump came with two o-rings, but I had ordered the blue o-ring from GM as well. The pump came with an o-ring that kept the pickup tube from going into the pump. It was so tight that it wouldn't engage to the point that we could even get the bolt started. We used the blue o-ring and there have been no issues thus far.

If you reuse the gray o-ring you run the risk of pinching it since it's so thin. Dumb question here...have you put oil on the blue o-ring before trying to put the pickup tube into the pump?

Finally got it installed with some helpful words from vettenuts. Bottom line the blue o-ring WILL "snap" into place if it is inserted correctly. You have to center it just right and apply VERY minimal pressue and it will slide right in and seat flush against the pump with no bolt installed. I did it incorrectly at first and nicked the o-ring....not sure if this would have had an effect on oil pressue but its in there correctly now. Seemed strange as it didn't seem possible to install it incorrectly..but you can.
