Default which alternator wire? charging issues

I've been plagued by this for awhile. Replaced alternator twice only to find out it was a wire (burnt) that comes off of the starter. Believed I fixed it, charged on start up, thought all is well. Came back an hour later and not charging. My question is of the wires on the starter which one would control charging?(colors) Does the wire change colors from starter to alternator? I plan on running a separate wire to accomplish as the original wire has gotten too short to repair again.

Yes, there are different wiring schematics depending on where the EBCM is located.

It's a big aluminum block with a bunch of brake lines running to it.
