Default cat vs. sound level question

I've had the 3" high flow cats in my LG pro/borla stinger exhaust setup since I bought the car years ago. Just wondering how much the cats actually quiet the car down? Since they are a slip fit it's kind of a pain to r&r them so just looking for others that have heard the difference. Back to back results would be nice if possible.

I'm not interested in the emissions topic so lets just keep this a sound level/quality discussion. I've been debating removing them for the track/strip and possibly adding a quieter exhaust. Any input would be much appreciated

Cats make a huge difference in reducing sound resonance and interior noise. If you go catless you will notice a BIG increase in noise

Default catless

Ed, Putting on the LG Pros, Xpipe & Hi flow cats was one of the first things I did , I kept my Ti exhaust. When I purchased the system, I also bought the by pass pipes to slide in the place of the Hi flows. I only ran the cats for about a month, before sliding in the by pass pipes. It made the system just a bit louder. I mainly did it for the few x tra ponies. I've recently switched out the Ti system & went w/ BB Bullets. The new system is much, much louder & engine seems to rev up faster. The Bullets are the sound that I like best. If you're constantly reving up on the street, evently you will probably get a noise violation. Oh, when I took the cats off(over 4 yrs ago) I have never smelled a rotten egg. You get more of an exhaust smell. If you do decide to go w/ the bi pass pipes, make sure you put plenty of anti seize @ the slip joints, to make things eazy if & when you deside to switch again. Good luck. Bob

Cats greatly reduce the sound of the exhaust, I put high flow cats in my system to reduce the exhaust smell but it quietened the car so much I took them back off and decided to live with the smell since it's not a daily driver.

this is the second time I have pulled the cats.
LGM pro's, 3" pipes and TI muff.
the sound is great-civil at low RPM's and produces a strong level when pushing the car. Cam shines through a little more.
Borla stingers? might be a little much, you won't know till you try.

I was went catless with my header install with borla stingers, but it was way too loud for me so i bought the fleabay hi-flow cats and it definately quieted it down to a respectable level...i then bought an X pipe and that helped get rid of the explosions when decelerating......I still get a little drone at 1500 rpm but its livable

Thanks for the response guys. As you can see in my sig the car is no cupcake in the power department NA wise. I've since added some rockers and a ported fast 90 in search of 500+ whp. The big power NA cars tend to be loud so I don't want it to get to crazy. I guess I just have to figure out what I want out of it and go from there. I'm not sure if a quiet exhaust without cats would make the same power as say my stinger/catted setup. It's probably splitting hairs at this point. I love the sound, but even with the high flow cats the exhaust can drone a lot at lower rpm.

Does anybody have a before and after dyno run with the lg pro cats in/out? I've heard ~5rwhp is about the cost of the cats, but if they keep the sound levels down it might be worth keeping them.
